Reading about the history of far right and far left movements in the UK and America I saw that there is a lack of literature explaining their reasons for not coming to power.

I did find a few theories and discussions but I feel the issue is very much one of interpretation and is very vague.

No one really knows why they failed to win power.

Part of me wonders, is it possible that parties such as the CPGB and BUF in Britain just simply didn't take it very seriously?

Did they really believe in it and want these ideals to come into reality or did they merely do it for the romanticism?

It's very hard to tell.

If they really put in the effort then why did the communist party of the UK not reach the size of the communist parties in Italy and France?

I do not believe there was such a party as the the "communist party of the UK". In Scotland where the Labour movement began, people channeled their rejection of capitalism into that form of socialism. The same went for the industrial mining areas of Wales and the English North. I imagine this accounts for the Communist Party of Great Britain failing to gather serious momentum.

The capitalist Establishment in the USA was always far too powerful to allow any other type of politics up to the present day.

Well in the USA the Communist Party only made things wore by being Stalinists and waving off Stalin's atrocities, even after exposed. People don't like liars and fanatics
