Simple really, if Roosevelt wins the Republican nomination, as he should have, he wins the election.

There's really no way Wilson beats him.

So the first issue is WWI and how Roosevelt reacts to that. Some say little would change, American doesn't enter until 1917 but maybe some months sooner, while others say he readies the army and USA is involved as early as 1915. I personally think America does get involved much sooner under Teddy. This leads to a sooner end to the war and probably a more stable League of Nations. Keep in mind that Roosevelt doesn't contract Malaria on his expedition if he's Presidents so he can absolutely make it to 1920. The way in which he deals with the war impacts the viability of the Republican Party in 1920. That and the fact at the time that would have been 6 consecutive Republican victories.

All in all I find this to be a very intriguing as a point of change in history. I just don't see the same thing happening with WWI or the aftermath and the Weimar Republic.

It is unlikely that the United States would have rallied to war against Germany in 1915. It took a lot of careful planning and suppression of voices to get Wilson to go to war, and even then he needed to have Congress overwhelmingly approve of it after years of promoting things like the sinking of the Lusitania and the Zimmerman Telegram.

Most Americans were German and Irish, who had blood feuds with Britain. Most Americans, even outside these groups, hated Britain because of territorial disputes in Canada, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Venezuela, and other places. Most of them, further, had a long tradition of hating Britain going back to Britain having been seen as aiding the Confederacy and burning down the White House in 1812.

That's not even getting into the trade disputes that were fairly legitimate.

And the labour disputes that were going all over the country.

Americans were more sympathetic to France, and possibly Teddy could have rallied a little more support around that, but a strong distaste for Russia would have neutralized that too.

Teddy would have probably have gone to war earlier, but it would be a much more contentious conflict by far.
