The southern part of Tyrol has been occupied by Italy for almost 100 years now. Although all the German speaking inhabitants of South Tyrol hold an Italian passport, they do not identify with Italy. On the contrary: They all identify themselves with Austria. Ties with Northern Tyrol are still very close. This raises the question whether South Tyrol should be reunified with North Tyrol or not. Personally, I think, the advantages would far outweigh the disadvantages, even for the Italian settlers, since the Austrian state is far better organized and less corrupt than Italy. Thus, even the Italian settlers would benefit from Tyrol's reunification.
