If you want to say that western politicians have been hypocritical moralisers, who have aided some very unsavoury people, and have happily cuddled up to extremely nasty regimes when it suited their purposes I have no dispute.
But many leftists (together with quite a few Conservatives and centrists) are saying that much, much more. That we are somehow responsible for destabilising these Muslim societies. That everything would have been lovely if we hadn't spoilt it with our interventions. This is nonsense. Iraq, Syria, Libya were all bitterly divided societies whose regimes were only maintained by the most brutal police terror. These regimes were pompous, dishonest, corrupt, inefficient. Wise or Foolish the Arab Spring was a mass popular movement of the Arab people.
Never forget that King Bashar's claim to the Syrian throne is totally based on his paternity. His father stood shoulder to shoulder with America in Desert Storm. Hafez Assad had no problem with Western intervention in 1991 as Saddam had no problem with western interventions when he was chumming it up with Donald Rumsfield. No we'll take no lectures from Baathists on western intervention.
Progressives lie scattered on Woke's highway, Diverse ghosts crowd the young child's fragile eggshell mind.
