Protectionism. There has never been a country both western or not which has not achieved prosperity by completely opening it's markets to competition. This current fetishisation of free trade and neoliberalism is drastically destroying countries all around the world especially amongst developing countries, through globalized international organizations who allegedly have that respective country's "best interests at heart", which associate neoliberalism with "progress and prosperity".

Protectionism now has more of a place in the 21st century than ever before.

Protectionism of course. Only right wing free market stooges want free trade as they want to drive working conditions down to third world standards. Why would anyone working class want free trade? You would have to be insane.

Neither and both. I think we need fair and ethical trade that prioritizes people and the environment over the greed of corporations and the geopolitical designs of technocratic globalist elites.

Alter-globalization (also known as alternative globalization, alter-mundialization—from the French "alter-mondialisation"—or the global justice movement) is the name of a social movement whose proponents support global cooperation and interaction, but oppose what they describe as the negative effects of economic globalization, considering that it often works to the detriment of, or does not adequately promote, human values such as environmental and climate protection, economic justice, labor protection, protection of indigenous cultures, peace, and civil liberties.

Protectionism in insuring self sufficiency and political autonomy. Globalization of luxuries and ideas.
