Today you see a lot of faux-individuals proclaiming how awesome 'individualism' is and how bad 'conformity' is like mindless drones, despite the fact that they have little to no individuality and just repeat this because it's trendy, much like the modern day 'emo kids' who buy their clothes at Hot Topic and dress and think exactly like everyone else in their own sub-culture.
In reality though, excessive individualism is morally degenerate and harmful to the self and society; serial killers like Jeffery Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy for example are extreme forms of individualism and fetishing "freedom" as an end in and of itself.
Conformity however instills a sense of purpose and cohesion within society; this is why athletes and militaries wear the same uniform for example, it's also why we in America all speak English, instead of every person speaking a different language, as society would be unable to function without it.
In the long run, excessive individualism is more dangerous than excessive conformity, even though ideally a balance would be ideal; as extreme individualism on the left leads to anarchy and deterioration, like in the fall of Rome, while extreme conformity leads to less personal freedom and economic progress, yet even those societies are still more moral and stable than the former.

He understands that Death, when we have finished the part that was assigned to us, is the reward of Love. And he apprehends the truth that the greatest happiness ever granted to a man is the privilege of being happy in the hour of his death.
