There is a distinct possibility that Marine Le Pen could win the French elections in 2017. If she wins this will put into power a political party founded in 1972 that had many links to anti-democratic and anti-liberal forces, including the old Vichy regime and former members of the Waffen SS.
I do not believe that the Front National really has any links to that past anymore but does it? She is far more moderate than her father was. It is entirely possible that the FN has transitioned into a right wing conservative from a right wing anti-establishment radical party and has therefore become the most right wing end of the French centre right. In other words, the FN may quite possibly no longer be a far right party.
Jean Marie Le Pen never expressed any desire to dismantle French democracy.
If the far right ever did take power in Europe, would their rule be democratic?
