So in California, gay marriage and marijuana are both legal. Bathrooms are open to either gender. Open borders is being rejected in Europe and is as good as rejected in the United States. Continuing to push for open borders will obviously happen but what comes next in the name of progress for progress' sake?

Legal heroine? Sex change operations for minors? It's not like they can just stop.

What's next for liberalism is what's always next for liberalism. Hillary's strategic goal was to be the master of Crony Capitalism, and it was a mighty good plan. She forgot you have to get elected first. Now Trump will be the master of Crony Capitalism, and Republicans will rule for a thousand years.

What is next is clearly being demonstrated in the world. Separate but equal is the new reality. The break up of the Soviet Union was not an isolated incident. Look at all the new small countries that have come into existence. People have abandoned the idea of belonging to a country that bullies the world and are opting for a community that shares their cultural values. They are clearly saying they want to be left alone to lead the lives they choose, and we are discussing how this will effect the geopolitical balance. People don't care. They want the world powers to disappear.

False. Many progressive ideas made it through state elections/propositions.

By the way, liberalism won in 2016. Trump is a liberal, Hillary was a liberal, every single person elected to congress/senate was a liberal. Liberalism does not mean progressivism, that's just a type of liberalism. The problem with conservative liberalism is that it is easily suscepitble to the destructive forces of revolution, whereas progressivism tries to preserve capitalism by ameliorating its worst effects. If you want to keep being conservative, you're just accelerating the demand for socialism.

First thought; as said when Obama took over

Second thought; "liberalism" is a very vague set of concepts. Looking back on "conservatism" change drastically between 1950 through now, most recently with Neocons and then the Tea Party mechanic and in the long term in changes in taxation from Eisenhower through foreign policy changes under Nixon... "liberalism" will adapt. My thought is that the west coast especially, and liberal states in general, will have further disparity with the red states. Conservatives already squirm with the multiculturalism and legal weed and such that we already have, and we squirm with dumbass abortion and birth control policies...

You haven't been paying attention to Trump's cabinet picks. Not a single liberal on there.

You can spin it any way you wish with your liberalism/progressivism point. The bottom line is that today's liberal/progressive politicians should never be in charge of national government - they are incompetent and irresponsible.

Progressives in the US have a lot left to do. The US still has no public health care system, and still has the death penalty. No civilised country has a gov't that kills its citizens but will not heal them.

There is still the whole cops shooting blacks thing.

There are still restrictions on abortion.

There is an entire fossil fuel industry to dismantle, as well as stopping the war machine that bombs bown people for their oil.

There is no shortage of problems.

Someone always says this after an election.

When W won, it was the end of the Democratic Party.

Then the Democrats swept the midterms and it was the end of the Republican Party.

Then Bush won again and it was the end of the Democratic Party.

Then a Democrat won the White House and it was the end of the Republican Party.

Then the Republicans swept midterms and it was the end of the Democratic Party.

Then the Democrats got reelected as president and it was the end of the Republican Party.

Now the Republicans got elected president and some brave people are standing up as visionaries and declaring the end of the Democratic Party.

You want an end to this ridiculous endless crises?
