Patriotism does not hold a country together.

Good laws promoting and defending liberties, rule of law, and equal citizenship rights to all denizens of the land do.

Ethnic discrimination against Kurds practically lead to fragmentation of Iraq and Syria.

We in Turkey are still paying the price of 1980s and 90s state policy of collective punishment of Kurds.

You in Iran did not and does not have ethnic discrimination, I give you that. Perhaps some may say lack of ethnic discrimination is a necessity as Persians constitute barely 50% of the Iranian population. Yet, I am ready to accept it as Iranian virtue.

However, some of the worst kind of discrimination practices have been happening in Iran against religious minorities, namely Sunnis (Kurds and Balochs) and Bahais.

That makes Iran a fragile country in my eyes.
