Facebook is merely a social networking site and its influence on the presidential election is overrated. I don't think the Americans are swayed in one way or another by only 3,000 sponsored posts sent by the Russian group, which Facebook claims to have been seen by over 10 million people, which cannot be true. The Russian group supported both Hillary and Trump and its ads were not one-sided propaganda to elect President Trump. It only costs $1 per day to run these Facebook ads.

Only a fraction of those were sponsored posts. In September, the company said that the Russian group had sent out about 3,000 sponsored posts that were seen by 10 million people. On Tuesday, Facebook updated that number to 11.4 million. Until then, Facebook spokespeople said the company had seen “no evidence” of Russia-linked activity on the platform, though a spring 2017 internal investigation on “information operations” (pdf) suggested that it had.
