Today's world seems more socially liberal and fiscally conservative than ever before.
No, there isn't a well established libertarian party in control of any country on Earth, but their ideology has garnished incredible prevalence. People everywhere expect deregulation while telling others to butt out of their life and mind their own business. There is no sense of solidarity, and everything seems to be a freeforall.
That said, the victory seems to have come at the cost of learning, "Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it." Conventionally, libertarians have insisted upon the NAP, but the NAP seems to barely be upheld if at all. Today, people seem obsessed with saying how things could be worse, others had/have it worse, and that if you can still make something of yourself, you have no right to complain. The deregulation libertarians advocated seems to have blurred the lines between conflict and competition where those who are abused are told on a ruggedly individualist basis to deal with it and pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
In other words, the social liberalism libertarians advocated has come back to bite them in tearing apart the due process behind upholding the principle they so sorely believe in.
Yes, the libertarians seem to have won, but it's come in the form of a Pyrrhic victory.
