Right, this is the difference between a "vegetarian" hick and a vegetarian hippy. A hick is vegetarian if he is down on his luck, because better veg than dead. For a hippy, vegetarianism a life style choice and a means of displaying penance and signalling virtue. Hicks are practical people, hippies are ideological.
