You are assigning too much agency to "leftists" themselves.
I spent 30 years in and out of university, and I can tell you that these institutions of higher learning changed dramatically between 1980 and 2010. Virtually all the socialism and income equality-related courses were quietly dropped, while big money was invited in to turn our learning centers into business schools that sideline any kind of historical or sociological knowledge.
Simultaneously, various commercial institutions began to promote "identity issues" (mass media, chambers of commerce, capitalist governance) as a way of taking the attention away from income equality and public input into governance.
It was a clever trick, but it worked. Today, the "left" is a useless band of competing tribes trying to out-victim each other. Meanwhile, the rich are destroying poor countries and stealing their resources while we march in Gay Pride parades and try to eradicate
males and their tribe.Commercial media is worse than MK Ultra in its reach.
