That Reagan had dementia/Alzheimer in office is as credible as Clinton having some disease beyond an infection during her campaign. There's little to support this as far as I know.
Attribution is difficult which is why there's so much room for partisanship. However, I wouldn't say that scepticism was warranted, at least no more than a general scepticism with respect to long term effects of one meeting.

You probably know this, but my comment obviously was not directed at you. I'm just observing that the centre is increasingly lost and I think it's fair to say that the centre left laid more claim to it and to being neutral, even if it might have often only been an aspiration. As far as opinion writing, punditry and editorials go, this is gone in the Trump era.
