I don't think old ideas about left and right really say that much about where one stands on the EU. If one is pro-freedom there is something quite attractive about the EU as it eases the freedom of movement of people, goods and funds, to be pro-freedom is considered right wing by some. On the other hand if one is a nationalist, then the EU is a fatal compromise of ethnic purity and national sovereignty, to be nationalist is also considered right wing by some.

For those who love big globe spanning bureaucracies there is a lot to love in the idea of the EU, some consider that kind of institution worship to be left wing. Then again the EU's economics broadly falls well within the Keynesian - Hayek spectrum, even leaning towards Hayek rather than Keynes, so for those who imagine Marx was a real economist there is nothing there but various shades of capitalism.

Actually it is 10 years Godstud not 100 (full male suffrage didn't come till 1918 and full female suffrage on equal terms with men came in 1928). It's ok I don't blame you. I can only imagine what schools are like in the colonies.

Equal suffrage only came in 1963. The 1928 act was biased in favour of women, as many men in the twentieth century were conscripted and got killed before getting a chance to exercise their right to vote. In the US men still don't have equal rights, as they are still subject to the draft if the government wishes.
