This might help them feel more comfortable with the concept of "healthy levels of old-fashioned and perfectly natural background radiation."

Thanks for proving my point.

Nutrients can be replaced. In fact, we are probably soon going to have genetically modified crops that can gradually remove the salt from salinized soils.

WHAT is the greatest threat to humanity on Earth today?
A: HUMAN OVERPOPULATION

What nonsense. Almost a Yogi Berra-ism ("Nobody goes there any more, it's too crowded."). Henry George refuted all that Malthusian tripe 140 years ago with a single sentence: "The man and the jayhawk both eat chickens; but where there are more jayhawks, there are fewer chickens, while where there are more men, there are more chickens." Also, "Each new mouth comes with two hands and a brain."

The notion that human population increase is a threat to our existence is absurd. The whole history of our species is increasing affluence, safety and comfort with increasing population. Since 70Kya, the population of anatomically modern humans has increased roughly a million-fold, but we are now incomparably better off than our ancestors were then. Moreover, population increase is rapidly slowing.

It would be hard to say this about parts of Africa, Pakistan and India.

Our future is either Cuba or Haiti.

There is no going back to limitless resources or improved technology.

Most people haven't realized it yet, but that system is dead.

We are living through its rigormortis. Every long-disproved defense of capitalism and technology that Truth To Power posts is just the muscle contractions of a dying ideology... that might take humanity and many other species with it.

How are you going to stop the progress of solar power technology? The cost of solar is relentlessly declining, while the cost of fossil fuels is rising. When those two lines cross, fossil fuels will be obsolete except for applications like aviation and polar settlements.
Most people haven't realized it yet, but that system is dead.

Like the whale oil system of lighting? But somehow we still have lights...

I have never defended capitalism, and nothing I've posted has been disproved. OTC, I have disproved the absurd claims of Chicken Little doomsday hysteria.

Silliness. There are technological threats to humanity and all life, but they have very little to do with ideology. Technology is power, and power can destroy as well as build. People are not going to stop seeking more power.

It's unfortunately true that people and their governments aren't always wise and honest. But we have no overpopulation problem, even in those places. We have under-wisdom, under-honesty, under-intelligence, under-justice, under-liberty, under-honesty, under-knowledge, under-courage and under-honesty, but no overpopulation.

Sort of true, however the actual definition of overpopulation should probably be set by actual efficiency and accomplishment and not by some theoretical standard of what should be happening in other related areas.

Religious people will not acknowledge "overpopulation" until we are actually at war with the rest of the planet over food appropriation. Once that "tipping point" hits, either half of the human population is wiped out quickly, or all will die.

Religious "leaders" are the most selfish bastards. All they care about is getting more sub humans to parrot their lies and donate to their "faith."

To reduce human overpopulation, we should first exterminate every single religious leader who advocates more than 2 kids per couple.... because their "followers" are too stupid to be "accountable."

No, because that just means blaming population for problems that are in fact caused by stupidity, dishonesty, cowardice, injustice, oppression, dishonesty, laziness, ignorance and dishonesty.

Nope. Lack of food has relentlessly become a smaller problem as global population has increased. One of the world's smallest and most crowded countries, the Netherlands, is also, despite its small size, one of its biggest food exporters.

True. But you will note that currently only Islam and animism are strongly associated with high birth rates and population growth.

That's the least of their wickedness.

Nonsense. Look at the declining protestant birth rate. Indeed the white birth rate at all. You can't lay this problem at the feet of religious leaders. That is just silly.

Do try to post smart stuff and not this kind of drivel. Your comments of sub-humans are consistent with your NAZI philosophy though.

You really think this is the issue?

You have one solution for every problem and it is fed by your teenage iconoclastic hate of religion. As you mature you will probably get over this. Most of us did.

“Our object must be to bring our territory into harmony with the numbers of our population.”
― Adolf Hitler

One of the ways an idiot can influence religious leaders to NOT come to the table WRT population is to write shit like this post. Nothing like advocating for their killing to build alliances.

Though it is unpopular on this form to speak about religion (and this thread is about to dissolve into yet another atheist versus the Bible debate) it is well to understand that religion in its wide variety is pervasive. No. Not pervasive. It is overwhelmingly popular. Even in officially atheist China after 50 years of atheist rule only 32% of the people identify as atheist.

So my friend. If you want to do something about overpopulation you need to engage religious people. And you need to do it without threatening them. It is a battle you will lose badly.

Those are both city-states that live off the limited resources of neighboring countries. We already have those here in North America. They're called large cities. When the environment starts collapsing, these will be the first places humanity abandons.

Like the whale oil system of lighting? But somehow we still have lights...

But whale species are ALL at risk of extinction. Perhaps some lights will continue to shine when humanity is gone as well.

You're complaining about capitalism, yet you're going against the industrial revolution?

You sound like you're a reactionary. You want the pre industrial feudal times back.

We disagree because God said,
"As for you, be fruitful and multiply; Populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it."
