The strangest thing, in this strangest of months, is how willingly people have surrendered private freedoms for public good, “We’re closing all the pubs and restaurants.” Great, we reply. “You can’t swim or play football either.” Oh, all right. And you have to stop going to church, seeing your friends and even visiting your mum. Sigh, OK. In a few weeks, we have been deprived of a host of fundamental liberties: to work, to move, to socialise. Many Americans are now living in solitary, for 23 hours a day; some in extremely difficult conditions. But to an extraordinary degree, people have accepted this, and they have been sticking to the rules. In my poor part of Jerusalem, I have seen “gold standard” queuing, walkers pacing parks in pairs, and deserted streets. But we’re only in week two of what could be months of confinement. People will only keep complying with “authoritarian rules if the authorities remain just”. And so far, there have been too many reports of puffed-up officials applying the rules heavy-handedly, unnecessarily and, in some cases, wrongly.

You act like all of these closures are permanent. Also, people understand that this is needed to prevent the spread of a deadly virus.

What the fuck is your point?

Wait until you are required to get tested daily and wear a badge that says what status you are.... infected or not. I agree this is an event that will probably equal to the liberties we lost after 9/11

Can you see it now bathrooms and water fountains marked "coronovirus only" and " non coronavirus only". :D

Doubtful.

Anyway, government and corporate disregard for online privacy is a much bigger threat to civil liberties than this virus.

You disagree with Bill Gates ? Also what about traveling? Are you going to have to have an ID badge saying you are Corona free ? How about a sporting event? You don't think insurance companies might have something say about that? The Panic Panic plan has a lot of consequences.

Rancid wrote:What is bill gates saying, and what provisions in the panic panic plan are taking our liberties away?

He was saying what I posted

What liberties? How about the entire economy. Under the Panic Panic plan how can anything ever go back to normal without a vaccine? How can anybody go back to work without intrusive actions to make it safe? HIV kills almost a half million people in the world a year and we still don't have a vaccine for it. Just saying.

Finfinder wrote:So you don't agree with the logic I posted? At what point should we stop panicking?

I'm asking you, where has it been legislated that we will be required to have corona virus papers to be able to do anything?

As for the hypothetical of it being required. Depends to what extent it is required.

LOL wow that is a rhetorical wrapped up in a side step non answer. First you already knew I never said it was legislated. So I'll asked you again when are we supposed to stop panicking?

"Depends to what extent" so does that's mean you agree with me you just don't want to admit it? . LOL

so like in what 2 weeks 3 weeks 2 months ? everything is back to normal nothing changes? Just go back to work attend NBA games just show up like nothing happened. What do mean "depends to what extent"? Tell us what life is like and when that starts LOL.

You need to start being more realistic about what is at stake here.

Now.

yes and no. It means I might agree under certain conditions, and might disagree under others.

I would not see a problem with requiring hospital workers, or nursing home workers to be vaccinated or have the paper work that say's they are COVID+. I would see a problem requiring vaccination to attend an NBA game.

I am, hence my "depends to what extent". Realistically, we need a balance between the common good, and individual freedoms.

@rancid as I pointed before and was my original question. How is it possible to get back to normal under the panic panic plan without a vaccine? I'm saying we still don't have a vaccine for HIV.

Just food for thought.

That is an interesting topic, will going to an NBA game be at your own risk ? I guess that was always the case before the world went insane.

Herd immunity could finally kick in, or the virus could mutate to something weaker, which corona viruses tend to do. If neither of those happens, then it looks like we would not go back to normal until more people are vaccinated.

Of course, this all depends on what your personal definition of normal is.

Yes, which has always been the case. Hence, it will be back to normal with respect to this.

So great we are actually getting somewhere in this discussion. Do you know that people are more afraid of losing their jobs, homes ,retirement and personal security than they are of dying from Coronavirus.

Finfinder wrote:LOl ok then you may want to refresh yourself on Bill Gates then :D

So Bill Gates is a threat to the American way of life?

Finfinder wrote:I totally agree but unfortunately he make some sense. Especially since the world has gone insane with this.

Ok, so what are you saying? Bill Gates is not a threat?
