This seems like a grossly excessive amount of punishment.

A Missouri man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for "lewd conduct" and "indecent exposure" in two separate incidents, one of which happened in a Walmart bathroom, and the other happened in a bathroom at an Elementary school where he worked at as a janitor. In both incidents a male child walked into the bathroom and saw what he was doing.

The second incident happened 6 years after the first.

Jesse Devore worked in the Camdenton School District.

The man had already spent over two years being detained in jail, after being arrested, before he was sentenced by the judge.

The public defender had asked for the sentence to be 2 to 4 years, with credit for time served.

Although there seem to be only two incidents, he was convicted of 6 criminal counts, which legally allowed the judge to sentence him to 20 years. This seems to be a case of what is known as charge stacking.

Does anyone else find this to be grossly excessive? It's true, the article does not really seem to give the full details, but 20 years sounds like it is extremely harsh and unfair in this situation.

Are people just thinking with their emotions?

if I had been the judge, from how it sounds in the article I do not think I would have sentenced him to more than a year and a half.

Edit:

"That 2013 incident was shown on video from Walmart security footage. Jurors saw a young boy going into a Walmart bathroom and Devore close behind. Few minutes later you see the boy leave, shaken up and Devore again leaving."

It looks like he intentionally followed the boy into the bathroom to expose himself. That changes the story a bit.
