This article details sexual violence against women in New Jersey prisons (in the United States)

https://msmagazine.com/2020/04/23/sexua ... s-step-in/

"The women's survival and freedom are in the balance - women are threatened with parole-busting discipline reports if they don’t comply with sexual demands."

i.e. The guards have the power to make false accusations against them, and use that to get sex.
If a woman does not have good reports, it could be likely to hurt her chances at a parole hearing, resulting in her spending more time in prison.

"Eight suits are pending against Coffee Creek Correction Facility and the Oregon Department of Corrections for one nurse who allegedly abused, raped or sodomized more than 15 women while he worked there. A woman in Connecticut where I was housed (I worked with her) is suing the state for assaults by multiple male officers."

Question: Is it really such a good idea to be routinely having male guards in women's prisons?

I mean, I could see a few big male guards being on hand if the female prison guards needed to call someone in to restrain a large-bodied female prisoner, but they shouldn't have male guards in that setting without multiple female guards accompanying them.

Or at least try to hire gay male prison guards or something.

I think this whole thing may be the result of political correctness, insisting there's absolutely no difference between males and females and/or that gender shouldn't be a discriminatory factor in hiring prison guards in female prisons.

(I'm okay with there being a few female guards in men's prisons - it might be the only females some of them see in a long time - but the situation should be the same as it should be with male guards in female prisons - there should only ever be a few of them and they should always only ever be present in larger groups of guards of the same gender as the inmates. That is, they should serve an auxiliary supporting role, and only when there are groups of guards present together at the same time.)

And, on the other hand, something this article does not mention, some of these male prison guards are (if they are half decent looking) in huge demand in these female prisons, with all these women locked up for years and no access to other men. So not all the sex that's going on (even if it is inappropriate) is sexual violence.

Former inmates at a Los Angeles county prison allege a range of sexual abuses by employees – from overt assault to subtle misconduct – made easy by the toxic power dynamics

In 2011, Michele Infante was incarcerated for close to six months at the Century regional detention facility in Lynwood, California, a small city adjacent to Compton and Watts. The facility is Los Angeles county’s only jail designated for women and sprawls across an industrial zone in the shadow of the Imperial Highway.

Infante, now 58, says she was sexually assaulted and sexually abused by two different employees at Lynwood, as the jail is known locally.

As she recalls, one day in late September 2011, after Infante had been at Lynwood for around five months, a deputy walked to the door of her cell and told her to come with him. He led her to what looked like an unused classroom in an empty wing of the jail, she said, pushed her against the wall and raped her.

"When I went back to my room, I just remember crying. I didn’t get a shower for a couple of days, so I just felt so dirty and filthy," she said. She didn't have an extra pair of underwear to change into after the assault, and didn’t tell anyone what had happened. "I just felt so alone and isolated … and like I deserved it somehow."

A former corrections officer at a Clark County, Indiana, jail gave a key to the women's section to male inmates, leading to numerous rapes and assaults.

The 20 female inmates who are suing the sheriff's department alleged that multiple male inmates entered the women’s section of the county jail October 24, 2021 using a key provided by now-former corrections officer David Lowe, a lawsuit alleges. At least two women were allegedly raped, and the attackers allegedly exposed themselves, made death threats and groped female inmates in the hours-long attack. Jail authorities did not immediately arrive to stop the alleged attack despite the presence of cameras and the women’s attempts to call for help.

Former inmate Briane Moore testified before the subcommittee, recounting how she was raped by an officer while she was imprisoned at a federal facility in West Virginia. She said the officer, a captain at the prison, would take her to private areas of the facility to abuse her out of sight of surveillance cameras.
"I knew he had the power to prevent me from being transferred to a prison closer to my family closer to my daughter," Moore said. "He was a captain with total control over me. I had no choice but to obey."
She said that she feared getting placed in solitary confinement if she tried to report the officer and was aware of other women who were punished for reporting abuse.
"It is hard to fully describe how I felt. The captain already had complete control over my life and was now enforcing control over my body."

Some naive people might ask why can't they hire guards who are actually good people with a decent record. But I don't think people asking that question really actually understand anything about how prisons work.
Being a prison guard is typically not seen as being the most desirable job. They pretty much have to take whoever they can get. Anyone without a criminal record.
A lot of the people with hideous disfigured faces take up a job in prisons because that is the only job they can get, that is one of the few places where having a decent comely appearance is not seen as mattering.

If their Lesbians. Heterosexual and bisexual women are attracted to powerful men. Far from being turned off by law breaking many women are attracted to it. Even the most extreme crimes that many of us may find abominable. A guy might not be able to get a girl friend, but if he murders and rapes a few kids and gets caught he'll never want for female suitors again. Look at Ted Bundy or the Yorkshire Ripper, if you're only source of information is the Liberal media and Cultural Marxist education, you might think that caving in women's skulls would be a turn off, not a bit of it, the prison services needed full time employers just to deal with all the love mail that those guys got.
