This American government ad below has been fairly frequent on Brazilian TV, I always come across it.

I think it's much more than an ad to stimulate tourism. I think that they are trying to say: "Hey, we are a multiracial, multicultural, gay-friendly (@1:15) country. You should like us!"
It may work here, but it would probably backfire in countries like Russia or China.
Do ads like this improve the image of the US abroad or not? What do you think?
