Humans have finally been able to fuse atoms in a controlled way that gives more energy than was put in to make the reaction happen. I doubt that all the energy was included, though. Still it is a huge leap forward. However, it is just the 1st step. Decades of development will be necessary.
IMHO, it is a race to see if we can build it on a massive scale before ACC destroys civilization.
