Light Armor, the M2. - Politics Forum.org | PoFo

Wandering the information superhighway, he came upon the last refuge of civilization, PoFo, the only forum on the internet ...

Military vehicles, aircraft, ships, guns and other military equipment. Plus any general military discussions that don't belong elsewhere on the board.

So, toss up your nations light armor or perhaps your favorite light armored vehicle instead ...

You can go back as far as WWI if you like.

The only question in this thread is ... Can your choice defeat a Bradley?

that M2 can be easilly destroyed by a RPG. I tested M2s on simulators before, with a direct hit from a RPG. And RPGs are as cheap as the Ak-47 safe to assume.

Well since no one else will put something forward: BMP-3

Crew 3
Troop Capacity 7 passengers
Combat Weight (mt) 18.70
Chassis Length Overall (m) 6.73
Height Overall (m) 2.45
Width Overall (m) 3.15
Speed (km/h) Max Road 70 (Off-Road 45)
Armament: Short 100mm gun w/ coaxial 30mm chaingun and 7.62 MG. Standard variety can fire AT 10 'Stabber', 1995 model can fire AT14 'Kornet' missiles (which can carry thermobaric warheads) and the chaingun ammo can be sabot rounds.
Protection: Options for ARENA (or related system) or ERA (not a popular option)

Information courtesy of fas.org. Go bug them for a picture.

I like the combination of the 100mm gun (for lobbing HE shells when needed) and the 30mm chaingun (for more general fire support). It seems a good combination for an infantry support vehicle. The missiles are irrelevant to me, I never understood the point of giving the missile to the vehicle instead of the squad.

Do I think this could beat a bradley? No idea. The bradley is probably better armoured, but the AT14 supposedly has a longer range than the TOW. Then again, crew quality is on the US side and I imagine the bradley would have an advantage in C3 by virtue of better electronic equipment.

I would've also mentioned the BMP-3. You forgot to mention one weapon; 30mm AGS-17 grenade launcher, which I think the BMP-3M has.
The bradley is probably better armoured

Both have about the same armour protection. BMP-3 can be added with reactive armour and also with the ARENA missile defence system.

But my nation's? Well, Finland has BMP-1s and BMP-2s, mostly from the former GDR. I like the way they look. But the newest IFV is the CV9030S from Sweden, partially assembled in Finland:

The only downside is the lack of ATGM launcher, but I don't think it really matters that much. The 30mm gun is good enough against most light vehicles and against an MBT it's usually better to have the missile launcher to be operated on foot.

What comes to the wheeled, Finland has some of it's own production.

It's probable that different turrets for the latter will be developed. For example, the AMOS grenade launcher:

Boon for the title of the thread wrote:Light Armor

Then one of the first lines that Boon wrote:I would like this thread to be dedicated to light armor, not tanks ... but light armor.

And PolarBear decides to post the stats and a pic of a T-90. This thread was specifically meant to NOT be about MBT's as would be specified by the threads title and one of the very first lines of the feckin first thread!

Then of course you can look through the thread abit and realize 'hey, you know what? This thread is about LIGHT armor ...'
