United leadership might not have been enough. Given the distances involved and the varied quality of the roads etc. it might have still been difficult for the Whites to coordinate a series of offensives (thus preventing the Reds from beating each one in turn).

Depending on how you define 'winning', the Whites probably would have had more luck if they had aimed for something more limited than retaking all of Russia. The Reds has some massive advantages by holding the centre, with the best logistics, the factories etc. While the Whites tended to over-extend themselves in pursuit to total victory, resulting in their forces getting chewed up. If you see the Whites as winning simply by continuing to exist, some kind of scenario where they just hold on in Ukraine or something might have been feasible.
