I remember reading a history book, with a quote from some thinker on why a return to Nazism was of diminishing interest to Germans from the 1950's. It went something very roughly along the lines of: "With Autobahns and supermarkets, who would want to apply for a position as Gauleiter in Central Asia"?

It's not well known, but very apt. Would be very glad if someone reminds me who it's from.
