EVERYONE should read this bit of History... it explains quite a bit. The Soviets had good reason to be distrustful of the US in later years, as we had dmonstrated a desire to destroy them.

Very, very interesting... of course like most things I've heard, I'll either have to see, or look up some additional sources for this information before I can quote it.

I do recall before hearing about troops from abroad being sent to Russia, specifically my Great Grandfather I believe, but I think I was told it was to 'halt' the Russian revolution, not wage war against the soviets... I suppose the difference would lay in when exactly this military action I was told about took place, before or after the revolution. Either way, I think it's fairly well established fact that the Soviet Union at it's birth was certainly no threat, and did indeed seek aid from other countries to right the political/social instabilities immedietly after the revolution.

This isn't to say that once on it's feet again Russia would have remained in friendly relations with the capitalists on it's borders... I know if I was an aspiring social state, that having people with lined pockets just a stones throw away would be hard to put up with, especially considering Russia fell into a record famine the same year the Soviet government took power. I suppose this all means that deep down inside I'm a capitalist, but that's just the deep down inside of me that's greedy and ignorant, my bigger socialist side usually beats that side of me into submission when I see some of the disparity in our world...

Gee, that was long winded... once again, nice article.

It wasn't the USSR in 1918. Nevertheless the western powers created enormous distrust and hate amongst the Bolsheviks with their invasions and alliances with the whites. Lenin had maintained that the entire world - the USA included, would fall to communism without a shot needing to be fired, "like an overipe fruit into our hands" or something like that.

However, the Bolsheviks (especially Lenin) was about as hateful towards the west from the beginning as the west was toward Bolshevik Russia, so some form of conflict, whether it be direct or 'cold', was inevitable in my opinion.
