In a new study published in the Journal of Neuroscience, Vanderbilt psychologists Robert Reinhart, a Ph.D. candidate, and Geoffrey Woodman, assistant professor of psychology, show that it is possible to selectively manipulate our ability to learn through the application of a mild electrical current to the brain, and that this effect can be enhanced or depressed depending on the direction of the current.

I wonder what the long-term health implications that manipulation would have on the brain? Governments would jump at the chance to create the perfect Manchurian Candidate, that would make MK-ULTRA seem a joke.

I actually bought myself a transcranial direct current stimulator for christmas. This has been used by the military for awhile now to train snipers and other things:

The first one has to be placed manually and can cause damage if you don't know what you're doing, but it is cheaper and has the benefit of being able to target different areas. The foc.us unit only has one configuration and is more expensive, but it directly targets the pfc. I scooch it back a bit to target the dorsal lateral pfc (the area that deals with math and language acquisition). I have definitely noticed a difference in my concentration when using it. I want to try the tRNS, but they haven't released the android app yet so you can play with the current and settings unfortunately, but it is released for iphone
