I am talking about flusing toilets, not just a hole in a bench.

Some had intricate designs to fall into river fed moats, thus flushing the crap away.
I can find nothing on Aztec or Mayan toilets that are more sophisticated. :?:

I'm pleased to see high speed Internet access has been declared a right. I just wish the feds would make it more affordable. The price just keeps going up, the service, not so much.

Well, that is a good point. If internet services are to be considered a basic service, as with water, garbage, sewage, roads, then maybe it should be de-commercialised (heaven forbid that I should use the term 'nationalisation'). But then provision of electricity, education, health care and legal representation are also essential services.

Surely a society which was serious about social justice would provide all the above at basic cost, possibly cross subsidised to make services in remote areas affordable, and with progressive taxation to fund them. In effect only those who can afford to pay will sustain these services as they would be paid for through taxation. Income tax and rates look like good tax instruments for this purpose. GST isn't progrssive tax but if the well off were to mean hearted to support funding through progressive tax, that is a possible alternative.

The highest cost essential service is health care. There is a problem here but possibly transformative technology in the form of regeneration of tissues might turn out to be more economical that current medical technology. Certainly it offers the potential to keep people fit to work well into their old age and thus greatly increases the tax base to paid for public health care.

Anyway, I applaud the Canadians for continuing to push toward a more equitable society.

The key here is it should be nationalised, but not decommercialised. Commercials can help subsidise the cost.

We have our phone (land line), cable and Internet services with one firm. The last time the bill was increased to $180.25 or £110) I rang them and asked which services were increased. They said cable. I said OK, I'm going to check out Netflix, and will probably call back and cancel Cablevision. They said, well, maybe we could cut out children's programming and some sports which would reduce the bill by $50.00. I thought to myself, if they can cut it that much without batting an eye and still make a profit, the the feds, who approve the rate, have really dropped the damned ball. Not withstanding, the feds could start a crown Corp and offer a similar package that consumers could use, and the profits go to "general coffers" to reduce everyone's taxes.

Now the folks up in Nanuvut and the Northwest Territories have access to all these services by satellite but some of them are older, slower beasts. Time to upgrade those satellites, pfor sure. Life is pretty expensive up there, they need speed and at it needs to be affordable.

I should call the cable Co again and ask them to drop those stupid cooking shows. Like I can cook....lol
