Are we really just androids at this point? that's ridiculous. I don't think your ability to perform in school is even really an indicator of intelligence; most individuals who were considered "geniuses" in the past all hated the educational system. If you want an answer for why there seems to be a decline in inventiveness and genius, then I guess you get the answer right here.
I don't think there is a retrograde trend in IQ. IQ is something quire different from knowledge. People with very high IQs tend to do better in school. It would be a mistake to conclude that unusually smart people dislike school. They may find it tedious but they have little problem doing well.
It is far to say of IQ, that if some one deviates low they face challenges. If they deviate high they face some as well.
This is occasionally a topic of discussion at meetings of Mensa and Intertel. What is often expressed is societies' disinclination to look for innovate ways to deal with those who deviate high. A person with a 140 IQ IS different from most others. His/her perceptions of the world in which they live are frequently quite different from the norm. IQ tests are usually designed by people of Average intelligence. Or perhaps a tad over.
I would recommend spending some quality time with a high IQ person who you respect and who is comfortable with you. I think it will be an eye-opener. IQ is real. The perception of what IQ means is quite different when you ask someone with a very high one. I have taken people to Mensa meetings before and they frequently find the people difficult to understand. As one girl said of joining Mensa to meet a mate, "The goods are odd but the odds are good".
