So multiculturalism seems to be the accepted as the way forward. I have two articles that discuss it.
First, is about the fact that colorblindness actually has a negative impact of minorities. The second suggests that multicultural programs in their current form have a negative impact on whites towards multicultural programs and indirectly minorities as well. Here are two quotes that generalize the articles. At least read the second article as that is what this thread is based on.

So if you want the multicultural programs suggested in the first article you should want to find a way of associating and not excluding whites as the second article suggests. There has been a lack of acknowledging whites in the multicultural movement and most proponents of multiculturalism laugh when whites suggest whites as a part of multiculturalism. But is that not in their own best interest?
I found these articles interesting because of all the support that colorblindness gets on political forums and such. Some of these colorblind whites are just racist but can't say so because of board rules, but others and I think most are not actually racist but feel/perceive multiculturalism as exclusionary towards whites. I would consider myself as part of the latter category to a degree.
I think this idea is reflected in all the times you see someone post "why can't there be a white group like so n so minority group", and racism is reinforced in whites when they see or perceive multicultural programs as exclusive. So maybe multicultural programs that honestly want to do whats right for everyone should be aware of the influence they have on whites and the unintended consequences.
Am I just racist or are multicultural programs actually not ideal as they are now?

The large-scale survey results, just published in the online version of the journal Psychological Science, reveal that minority employees feel less committed to their work when white employees promote "colorblindness." Yet when white workers champion multiculturalism, the research finds, their minority peers feel more connected to their jobs.

the researchers show how whites associate multiculturalism with exclusion as opposed to inclusion, but do not show this bias when whites are explicitly included in the conceptualization of multiculturalism.
