From one evening to the next, about 24 hours.

It's 25 hours.

I wanted to fast, but I made the decision when it was too late, and I didn't wanna disrespect the Jewish religion by practicing it wrongly.

I might fast another day. Probably not 25 hours, though. That's hardcore, haha.

Oxy, the more you do, the easier they get. Have you considered fasting for Tisha B'Av as well?

NO I didnt even hear of that one.

In any case the fast was pretty difficult for me, but the binge eating afterwards was worth it.

So Oxy, you grew up in a completely secular home?

So I don't know how many rips I did during Yom Kippur but my mouth tasted like fucking sewage. I didn't do the Yom Kippur properly as I was stoned, and just playing Guitar Hero. I didn't eat, however, which is very easy for me. Frankly, I don't understand what people are complaining about. It's only 25 hours. The thirst is an entirely different matter altogether. I don't even know how you ate so much, Oxy. :D

Thank God it's over.

And yeah, Abood, the gates of heaven are closed already. They are only open for one day of the year, and it's gone now. :D In other words, no need to fast, you can try again next year.

Pretty much, my parents grew up with almost no knowledge of Judaism.

^ That's a shame. I don't think people should be brainwashed but they should be exposed to it in order to choose whether or not they are interested.

Even from a non-religious perspective, events like building a sukkah, pesach seders and Simchas Torah are great cultural events and celebration of our heritage as a nation.

Indeed it is. I had a roommate who was raised by atheist parents and had no idea of any of the biblical stories. As an English major she was kind of at a loss, as much of the literature she was studying had biblical references that went totally over her head.

Unfortunately, I was one of those folks who's parents brainwashed religion into. This eventually led me to being a bit messed up when I stopped believing it, but I would encourage anyone to read the Bible just as a piece of literature.

Well my knowledge of Judaism, was based on my on investigation. Also my parents werent Athiests they just didnt know about Judaism and most of the traditions and history. So it wasnt like they were discouraging my investigation. As far as the holidays, I dont really like the commercialism and hypocrisy I encountered in the Religious community. I respect the religion, and find many parts of the Kabbalah to fit in with my conceptions of reality, but I dont really like the Hierarchy and corruption associated with such enterprises.

Considering how Eastern European Oxy looks, it would be surprising if his parents knew anything about Judaism at all.

True. That's exactly how I feel about it. I gotta take back the thing I said about you being a self-hating Jew. You're not a self-hating Jew, but you are a registered Democrat and Labor Zionist, which by default puts you in the "Fran Drescher" group.

You just have to remember that Reform (or Deform) Judaism is not real Judaism. I'm not Orthodox at all, but I still believe that Orthodox Judaism is the real version of Judaism, and some of these Deform temples are hilarious. Not saying that you should be Orthodox Jewish but don't get pulled into these cults who say that their Judaism is "just as good" as Orthodox Judaism.

I dont care for Judaism in any of its organized forms. Although I value alot of its ancient wisdom, especially the kabbalah which is a large basis of my Spirituality.

Seems like a mix of Judaism, Egyptian and greek mythology.

The teachings are sort of like the Kabbalah although much more explicitly Gnostic. I feel like there's only real value in the mythical texts of the Kabbalists, Sufis, and Gnostics - the Torah, the Bible and the Qur'an are boring.
