God is there when we're at our lowest, when our fallen natures pathetic and futile attempts at an autonomy not possible to creatures fall to the ground. Then, we can repent of our pride and our sin and gain the freedom of being adopted sons of God, sharing in His Nature.

We make ourselves God, and when our idolatry inevitably fails us we curse the God Who really exists and made us, unless we can be made to see how blind we've been.
