I've always wondered why this event seems to tie-in to Jesus coming of age.
We know Jews didn't have the celebration back then, but it seems the account is his "coming of age"(Bar Mitzvah) moment. Happens at 12 years, seems like his parents delibrately brought him to the temple, etc.
