I'm an American Citizen who has never traveled further than Mexico out of the nation.

Every April, in my former hometown, there was a festival called the Houston International Festival. Some years they celebrated the Greek culture, some years, it was France, some years, China, Poland, Czech, etc...

Do cities outside of the US have "American" festivals where people get together and eat hot dogs and apple pie and what have you?

They celebrate those cultures because a lot of immigrants came from those cultures to settle in the US.
There are some feeble attempts to import the American way of celebrating All saints day in Europe with pumpkins and stuff and we all drink coca cola.

Details

The 36th Americana International Festival re-sited to Loughborough Leicestershire in 2014 after spending twenty-seven years at the Newark showground, it is a family owned and run festival that pays tribute to the American Dream in the form of great automobiles, motorcycles, trucks and cool anglo-american music with numerous themed trade stands, food vendors and other great attractions for all the family. The festival has been attraction thousands of like-minded visitors from all parts of the UK and beyond including regulars from the USA, Canada and Australia who have made it their main point of interest when visiting the UK. It is possibly the biggest unsponsored family orientated festival in this country that is still owned and stage by the same couple who started it way back in July 1980 on a public house car park.

The fantastic live music usually spans seven decades and is performed by over thirty hugely popular artists who between them cover, roots, classic country, vintage rock'n'roll, soul/motown and alternative music genres that fit under the banner of anglo-american music. The festival supports many worthy charities including Cancer Research, the Heart Foundation and McMillan Nurses to mention a few who have received support from this long running festival.

We are more about that capitalistic ownership of everyone. As long as you keep buying, we'll let you do whatever pagan rituals you want. The second you stop buying...

Though we do just plain make up our share of holidays. Cinco de Mayo isn't a thing in Mexico, and certainly isn't Mexican Independence Day, as most Americans assume.

Is cinco de mayo part of the conspiracy to avoid celebrating international labour day?

Valentines day has thoroughly infected Cambodia. The gov't cracks down on guesthouses fearing that teens may have sex with one another and the traffic is always awful that night. Christmas isn't too bad yet and Easter is ignored because Khmer New Year is on the same week.

Thank you for the thoughtful responses. Just FTR...the Houston international festival did "center" on food. Usually because cuisine is a centerpiece of most celebrations. However, there was so much more to it than just food. I do not know enough about the culture to know if it is insulting but when China was honored, there were dances by a group dressed as a collective dragon. One year, it was Spain and the man-made towers of humanity were formed to where 50-150 people get together in matching outfits and attempt to have a "ladder" made of about 10 people in the middle of this mass of humanity. Artists from the other nations were often celebrated as well--especially music and visual arts.

The daily opening of a McDonalds isn't what I was talking about. Thanks also for your input.
