"Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday welcomed a French plan to recognize the state of Palestine should a fresh push for peace talks fail, and warned that his people would no longer accept Israel’s occupation or settlements."

That Abbas would use the phrase "no longer accept" Israeli occupation and settlements is telling in that Fatah collaboration in the West Bank in preference to resistance has given everyone the impression that the status quo is one of de facto resignation to Israeli annexation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem as well as the permanence of the illegal settlements. France has finally come to the realization that talks mean nothing unless the occupation is ended and short of this the French seem likely to go ahead and recognize the State of Palestine. The Israelis wont like this but can live with it as long as the Americans remain their ally, right or wrong.
