New Hamas Charter Would Name ‘Occupiers,’ Not ‘Jews,’ as the Enemy

New York Times. MARCH 9, 2017

CAIRO — Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group that has governed the Gaza Strip for a decade, is drafting a new platform to present a more pragmatic and cooperative face to the world, Hamas officials confirmed on Thursday.

The document would represent a departure from the group’s contentious 1988 charter, in which it promised to “obliterate” Israel and characterized its struggle as specifically against Jews. The new document defines Hamas’s enemies as “occupiers.”

“It means that we don’t fight Jews because they are Jews,” said Taher el-Nounou, a Hamas spokesman in Gaza. “Our struggle is only against those who occupied our lands.”

The new document would accept borders of the territory captured by Israel in the 1967 war as the basis for a Palestinian state. It would not recognize Israel, however, nor would it give up future claims to all of what Hamas considers Palestinian lands.

Mr. Nounou said the document, the result of four years of work, is not yet final and has not yet been approved by Hamas’s governing bodies. Nor are its contents wholly new, even though they seem now to carry both practical and symbolic weight, particularly in Hamas’s relations with Egypt.

Egypt controls the southern border of Gaza, limiting the movement of people and goods in and out of the increasingly impoverished territory.

Israel controls access from all other sides, including the Mediterranean, in what critics call a siege against the enclave of more than two million people.

We'll see how this goes. I doubt the Israeli Right will care even if Hamas does change its charter; they'll just come up with new excuses. Raise the bar higher, as usual.

If ISIS were to change its charter to allow for a 'less prejudicial treatment' of 'infidels, kafir and takfiris', would it really be able to redeem itself in the eyes of the international community? Hamas is of course nothing more than the Palestinian precursor to ISIS and their barbaric practices aren't easily forgotten.

Makes no difference to the reality, 'occupiers' = 'Jews'.

FALSE LOGIC & FAKE NEWS.
Same old HAMAS, like the leopard, incapable of changing it's spots, so they substitute one verb for another, same old meaning though.

TRY AGAIN 'TERRORIST' HAMAS, because Donald TRUMP will never allow a 'TERRORIST' State on Israel's border, let alone one that has the avowed intent to destroy Israel.

It has already been established that the JEWS were 'occupiers' of Palestine BEFORE any 'Arabs' & Jerusalem will eventually be enclosed within Israel's border as it rightfully should be.

The Hamas charter was influenced by the Egyptian Muslim Brethren who themselves took it from the Nazis. There are many strange things there like the bad influence of the Jews during the... French Revolution. A known Hitler obsession.

The 'Arabs' had a 'thing' with the NAZIS, bit of a 'bummer' if you ask me, I would never trust one as long has they have ground to stand on.

That's it ? Four years of work ? Changing one word in the chapter, from "Jew" to "Occupier"
That's good work boys, but you get a D-minus.
Back to work and come back when you have something acceptable as a basis for negotiations.

Nice move, gives them cover from both sides. If Jews have issue with this language then we acknowledge we are occupiers, in a preschool kind of way...who dealt it smelt it type logic. In any case I think Israel should wipe these bastards from the planet, and anyone who supports them.

The hysteria about Hamas ITT is kind of amusing considering the violence committed by zionists compared to that by Hamas is incomparable, as well as the fact that one is a weak resistance organization imprisoned in the concentration camp known as Gaza, and the other is the 4th most powerful military power in the world.
