I am confident that communism is viable for a socio-economic network on the scale of billions of individuals or more but it does depend on the sum of the spiritual enlightenment of all those individuals. If everyone on earth was as compassionate and wise as the buddha then global communism would be not just be viable it would be inevitable. Ok while that may seem inconceivable for humanity now, it needn't always be so for there is no hard impediment. Anyone can be a buddha with only modest training so it is possible for everyone to be a buddha. Perhaps this will happen a thousand years from now, who can say?

We are where we are and for now, as you say, mutualism and capitalism will have to be the main ways of socio-economic conduct for the global village.
