Anarcho-capitalism is perhaps more closely linked the libertarian tradition than anarchism as it favours a free market and a stateless society. Private businesses would replace the functions of the state. This form of anarchism is largely an American phenomenon and first emerged in the 1950s (although it arguably has its roots in 19th century individualist anarchism and classical liberalism). Key thinkers include Murray Rothbard.

A year later, and with more nuanced responses, I have seemingly shifted slightly more towards Christian Anarchism instead of Anarcho Capitalism.

You Scored as Christian Anarchist

Christian anarchism is one of the oldest anarchist philosophies, arguably dating back to the early Christian church. Christian anarchists emphasise non-violence and oppose the state as God is the only legitimate source of authority. Key thinkers include the Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy.

Why is there no cryptoanarchism or anarcho pacifism?

The test is so biased to collectivist and labor ideologies that it's way too hard to take seriously.

Also, the lack of eastern ideology is disgruntling. Buddhism is nothing like Christianity despite also being rather spiritual.
#13815037
cryptoanarchism is not a school of anarchist thought but a means to achieve anarchy.

anarcho pacifism is in practice the same as christian anarchism. The difference is the ideological underpinning. A-P's think that the state is evil because all authority is evil, C-A's believe that the state is evil because the only authority is God.

I happen to be a deist jew, but I fall under christian anarchist because I do believe in God and his ultimate authority over the universe. But I see anarcho pacifists as my brothers because our earthly goals are the same.

The thing which worries me about Christian anarchism is how easily subverted it can become to naturalist and labor oriented ideologies. A lot of Christians are really bent on work ethic and aesthetic grandeur for dogmatically justifying societal structure. Monks are nice, but everyone isn't satisfied with the life of a monastery. Monasteries devolve into communes, and communes become syndicates.

That said, even Kant acknowledged God as a viable unified model of perfection, but not as a provable entity. When someone believes God can be demonstrated, that crosses the border into noble lies. The same thing goes for believing in holy texts. They're fine as references of virtue, but not for epistemic closure.

You really have to be careful with religious folk. Over the short run, they're valuable allies in encouraging individual ingenuity, but over the long run, they'll blame you as lazy and defying tradition. Even worse, religious people will make appeals to IGNORANCE in order to defy socialist dogma.

This isn't to say all religious people are dumb, but many take a lot for granted, and they need a deeply grounded feel good foundation to remain content. Passionate zealots fall halfway into this group, and they'll fall over into socialist dogma rather quickly when socialism gives them a chance to prove their worth from working hard before working smart.

The other half of passionate zealots are rather philosophically devout, but they come off as weird to most people which makes them easily alienated as schizophrenics.

When everyone else around you is crazy though, it doesn't take much to get labeled as insane. You just have to find other people who are willing to think as much as you do...

...which is why I like cryptoanarchism. The only people who can break the code are the ones who are smart enough to figure it out.
#13815059
ok again, I have to remind you that cryptoanarchism is merely a mechanism to bypass state repression in order to serve as a means to achieve the anarchism of your choosing; it is not a school of anarchism.

second of all, "Christian Anarchism" does not mean "Christian" in the sense of the Christian religion and church.

Rather, it means behaving according to the teachings of Jesus himself, who preached tolerance, peace, nonviolence, and a disavowal of coercion.

That's why I, as a Jew, can be a christian anarchist. I definitely don't believe that Jesus was God, or that the New Testament (or Torah for that matter) are the unedited true words of God. I merely think that the teachings themselves -- ascribed to Jesus by tradition as described in the New Testament (as a work of indeterminate historical accuracy) -- represent the right outlook on life, regardless of who taught them. It so happened to be a guy named Christ.

Well yea, in reference to Christians, I was talking about Judeo-Christian theology in general.

This is in stark contrast to say Buddhism which acknowledges the indifference of nature and the many paradoxes of naturalist thinking. Buddhism seeks justification not upon results and consequences, but from inner peace, tranquility, and acceptance of our circumstances. There aren't any pearly gates and/or almighty judgment to fear.

Jesus was a nice guy, but he's easily convertible into Christian socialism as a primitivist hippie.

As for cryptoanarchism merely being a method and not a school, I'm not sure if that's really important. Anarchically speaking, schools are important because they teach methods. Otherwise, you would be admiring a school for being an institution which would be rather counterintuitive (especially for you).

The only goal of libertarianism (what libertarians are "obsessed" with) is to eliminate institutionalized coercion from human society.

(Case in point, look at Paradigm's listing of syndicalism then Christianity! )
#13816151
Mmmm...

...look, I'm not anti-establishment, but institutions require normalization.

That normalization process risks the replacement of analysis with historicism.
#13816279
Listen to yourself

You're the one talking and thinking in terms of "normalization," not I.

I've always wondered why a guy as evidently clever as you is so philosophically verbose. I have a suspicion that the spooks in your mind are clouding your reasoning with all the useless ideological and theoretical frameworks you set up, making you think that the world is a giant puzzle and you have to reason out which shape peg goes into which hole, and that if you somehow determine this you can unlock the truth.

There's no pegs, no holes, brother; there's only freedom and coercion. That is it.
#13816290
Squirrel, if that was the case, there'd be nothing wrong with nihilist libertinism.

In any case, how can you have an institution without normalization?

I kind of do view the world as a giant puzzle, but that's because without the puzzle, I'm very vulnerable to being abused.

It's happened plenty of times as well, so no, it's not just "spooks".
