I hope this is close to what you are looking for, a list of Spanish Civil War books and another list

And a good general history - The Revolution and Civil War in Spain by Pierre Broue

Two very good book/essay:

The Spanish Anarchists: The Heroic Years 1868-1936 by Murray Bookchin which gives you a good sense of how anarchism developed and took root in Spain. Contrary to the idea that the anarchist revolution in Spain was 'spontaneous', it took many decades for anarchism to be widely accepted.

Objectivity and Liberal Scholarship by Noam Chomsky which you can actually read here. The essay has a section reviewing and pointing out the problems with the liberal scholarship on the Spanish Civil War.

This essay is actually what made me want to learn more about the subject.

Honi beat me to the one I was going to suggest - the Bookchin book is the best thing on offer as a general overview of the anarchists in Spain, although it doesn't cover the topic you are most interested in: but there were insurrections in 1933 and the 1934 Asturias uprising, so "revolutions" of sorts are still addressed.

If that's the best book, then I will look into acquiring it.

I imagine the sources Chomksy cites in his support of the anarchists in On Objectivity... would be of interest too... Anyways, thanks, guys.

Is there no public library where you live? A lot of these special interest books are expensive. Most public libraries will order specialist books on extended loan if you say you are a student or doing bona fide research. This would be a much cheaper option.

I would say the premier English book on the issue of the Spanish anarchist collectives would be Sam Dolgoff's The Anarchist Collectives.
