You are right SC - it is still an "apparent" suicide. We should confirm that this is what it was before jumping to conclusions. I understand there was an autopsy yesterday, lets wait for the results. Also some media were reporting an apparent suicide note.

Well at least the station has offered to donate at least 300,000 pounds to the woman's family. Better than nothing. To the Aussies it was a harmless prank but when something like that gets seized upon by the British papers, it gets blown out of all proportion.

We are aware of our own medias culture of sensationalism. Most of us have learned to read between the lines and many are questioning their role in all this.

Our glorious MP Keith Vaz has waded in and is "demanding answers".

There was a British MP huffing and puffing on Australian media this last week - seems to be a self-styled representative of the nurse's family.

He seemed quite over the top in condemning the DJs, and even the hospital she worked for.

Maybe this is a good thing, although what prompted it is something bad, if the event forces Australia to take a more critical look at its media culture thats a silver lining IMO.

The standard of media in Australia is a direct result of what the public wants, there are crap stations like this but who am I to tell the 'bogans' they can't have their prank calls? It was just unlucky, and I am saying that as someone who until recently was recieving treatment for depression. No suicide is spontaneous, she has been thinking about it\planning it for a long time, this was just the trigger.
