I agree that the god thing should be removed from it since its part of the american idea that if you dont wanna believe in god then that is your right, but all school children should be forced to repeat the older version of the pledge because it teaches them what america is about.

There is nothing wrong with teaching school children values as long as its the right ones.

Hell no. I'm not an American, but this Pledge of Allegiance issue is disgusting. No self-respecting citizen of a 'republic' could seriously endorse such a concept, much less the practice. In my view.

Im not saying they should be indoctrinated (like the liberals do with their multiculturalism BS), im saying they should be exposed to the thoughts of great western thinkers like Thomas Jefferson and Socrates, whether they agree with them is their own choice, but they should be educated about these people, because they where the greatest heroes of western philosophy and values.

So many ppl today are borderline retarded, philosophy wise, because they are not taught to use their brain in a critical manner, they are just force fed the Multiculturalist BS of every culture is equally good and that good and evil dont exist, its all ''relative to the individual person'' etc etc.

I agree we ought to revert to the pre-1950's pledge, but every American child ought to say the pledge.

Why do you want children made to take the pledge, sir?

Children ought to be raised to be proud of their nation and proud to serve it; it's really self explanatory.

All citizens should be expected to say a pledge. Whether children qualify as citizens is something I would debate.

How does the Pledge of Allegiance do this? Do you even know the American Pledge? It's basicly you swearing to be part of the collective. I mean, holy fuck, the Pledge of Allegiance is the second biggest Socialist Institution in America!

Oh, other: back to orginal version, make the Pledge something said every day, but it doesn't have to be said.

It's one thing if you want to join a voluntary association or something like that, but forcing children to recite a mandatory ritualistic pledge in support of the state just smacks of fascist brainwashing.

In a free society you wouldn't think you would HAVE to force people to pledge allegiance. How allegiant is someone likely to be if they are forced to voice that allegiance. How many Kindergartners lives are enriched through this ritual? I would suggest trying to make and keep this country a place where people want to pledge their allegiance of their own volition, as opposed to wasting time trying to force them.

Yes, I support the recitation of the pledge of allegiance in schools to begin the schoolday. I think people should be allowed to say the "under god" part if they want to, and if not, not.

I support the idea of public schools reciting the pledge of allegiance at the beginning of the school day. However, individual students have every right to choose whether or not they want to say it.

We should keep in mind here that not every kid enrolled in an American primary or secondary school is an American citizen, and while some are immigrants (and thus on track for citizenship), some are children of expats of overseas companies working in the US and owe no particular allegiance to the US itself.

I do believe that the under god portion should be removed from the Pledge. It doesn't add anything, flies right in the face of pre-Cold War American tradition, and has Constitutional issues.
