I actually have a copy of Surikov's A Young Woman at Prayer on my wall at home, although I am thinking of replacing it with a Kandinsky, possibly Composition VII.

He has a particular way of capturing both feminine resilience and determination in a single instance. His Meditation is probably the best example: a bruised, battered Italia, breast exposed, cross fervently clutched...and yet there is something in her eyes, in her glare, that says "Don't count me out just yet!".
