Hey so this is a pretty general question but what are your opinions of the UN's future? Strengthening or weakening influence?

Well, it seems like no one felt like handling this one eh? My personal opinion is that it will grow more powerful, or at least another organisation based on similar principles (world government) will come about. Globalisation causes a decline in cultural and linguistic differences between countries (as we were speaking about in another thread) and political integration would be a natural result of this.

I think that when you have one or two countries dominating the international political scene, its difficult for an organisation like the UN to exert any influence because countries like China and the United States can probably act unilaterally in a lot of cases without having to worry too much about the consequences. But when groups begin to make their own political/economic blocks, there will come to be a certain balance of power. The EU is a good example of how this could work on a grand scale between countries of varying languages and cultures.

As to avoid posting a one liner. I'll put it bluntly -- then say it again. The UN needs to fuck off.
They are nothing but a pack of weakling leftards exerting too much influence on countries, cultures and societies. Politicians in power may as well not be politicians, instead they should be termed "UN puppet".

I am not sure about the UN's future. But the UN as an organization has zero influence. It is a very ineffective bureaucracy that is occasionally used as a tool by groups of nations but usually accomplishes nothing. The record of the various specialized agencies affiliated with the UN is more mixed, with some being (potentially) very useful and influential (WHO, IMF, World Bank, IPU, etc.) and others being completely useless (UNESCO, UNCTAD, ...)

Weak. Getting weaker. Will get even weaker. Large powers ignore UN resolutions. The voting structure is wrong (it gives identical weight to Bosnia and Germany). It lacks power to resolve human rights violations. It has a pretty flag.

The UN has very little influence at all. Globalization will likely result, eventually, in a world government, but this could be very far off in the future. As for now, the UN seems to be staying at the same level of power it always has had, which is nearly none.
