The IMF is crowing over liberalism's success in promoting open borders.

The bait is a projected .3% growth in German GDP attributed to immigration. Buried in this bait is the hook. Germany can get migrants into jobs in the coming years by ramping up “labor-market flexibility” – code for smashing up what’s left of German labour market regulations and trade unions. To achieve the desired necessary degree of flexibility a reduction in Germany's minimum wage is urged, and the IMF goes so far as to say other European states could benefit from such flexibility as well.
This will follow a well-rehearsed sequence of events. More unemployment will lead to more demand on Germany’s welfare state, which in turn will provoke neoliberal demands to slash welfare to incentivise unemployed people into work. Conservative Germans will go along with these demands to prevent hated foreigners from benefitting from its traditional welfare system.
The capitalist elite have identified the weaknesses of liberal ideology, and will use them to dismantle the social welfare state. The modern left is defenseless against this incursion, since the welfare of workers within national borders is not a valid consideration.

The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters. -Antonio Gramsci
