Idea: On election night, make a fake news feed that only broadcasts to Trump's hotel room. It will show him winning, and from then on a special Secret Service detail will escort him to a fake White House in a fake Washington D.C. so he can begin presidenting (he won't know he has to wait to be sworn in, trust me).

Get real world leaders to show up and do fake meetings with him. Every episode of this amazing reality show will begin with Putin giving Trump orders for his next Presidential Challenge, where Trump can win big prizes.

I was watching the feed live on ABC News24 on my TV.

They cut to a live press conference of our PM Malcolm Turnbull discussing his rather valid reasons for not endorsing former PM Kevin Rudd's bid for the UN Secretary General between Chelsea and Hillary.... and quite passionately at that. We went from the DNC, to our own PM, back to the DNC.

So it kinda made the bad editing of the Hillary speech more obvious, as Turnbull frankly had better editing and is a better Orator than she is.... We got close up shots and everything as Turnbull took to the mic to explain his "valid reasons" for denying Rudd his shot, then cut back(when Hillary took to the podium so we saw the whole thing) into a speech that looked boring as hell in comparison.

So there is a post on /r/The_Donald claiming that the AMA by Donald Trump, an American presidential nominee, was subject to vote manipulation by the Reddit administrators. Apparently, the number of votes fell by thousands over the course of several hours. Now, I certainly like to think the best of the admins, in part because a lot of people in the Reddit 'shitlordsphere' do not buy the idea that the admins are out to push a political agenda. Here is what happened:

Sounds a little fishy. But unfortunately, upon further investigation, it turned out that it is even worse than it was claimed. The vote manipulation was not a one-time affair either: over the course of eight hours, the upvote numbers on Trump's AMA fell by about 10,000 - while the 'total vote number' remained constant (as can be judged by the percentage of votes indicated).

I will post a link to the list of total archived posts in the comments, because it leads to my post being pulled by the automoderator. In the first 1.5 hours of the post being upvotes rose to 11,789. The post went from being almost unanimously upvoted to being quite controversial - the 11,789 made up only 63% of the upvotes on the post. This may be manipulation, or it may be people downvoting it as it got to /r/all.

About 10 minutes after midnight UTC is apparently where the manipulation by the admins began. After this, the 63% remained constant, even as the net upvotes started falling off a cliff. In the first fifteen minutes, the post lost 750 upvotes (11,020 remaining). Note the stunning 42,000 people who were active on the sub at the time. After one hour and ten minutes, the post was at 8,633. This went all the way down to 1,752 in the last archive... with the percentage of upvotes still being 63%. This number is inconsistent with the post karma on Trump's account, which is more than 5,000.

I ran a regression analysis on the relationship between the number of upvotes and the time elapsed since the second archive (since the manipulation may have started somewhere between the two) and the second to last one. An exponential regression shows that 97.1% of the upvotes are explained by the number of intervening minutes. A simple calculation also shows that there is a negative correlation of -0.94 between the number of elapsed minutes and the net upvotes on the AMA. Even if we assumed that brigadiers are responsible for downvotes, and the 63% was just a glitch, they would have to be an organized army of thousands, each downvoting at the designated minute, in order to achieve this result. Ockham's razor suggests that there was not.

No, this appears to be the algorithm the Reddit administrators use to nerf posts they dislike. And while I do understand that they don't want 2/3 of the posts on /r/all being shitposts and meme-posts on /r/The_Donald, which are something that probably do not interest the average /r/all browser, sabotaging the AMA of a presidential candidate is breathtaking in its audacity.

Now, some have argued that this is just 'normal Reddit', because there used to be a normalization 'vote cap'. Snowden's AMA ended up with fewer votes than it started. However, it never fell from r/all, like this post did, and it ended up with about 5000 upvotes - and no evidence have been provided where the upvote number fell to fewer than 2000, as with this one. And as the admin Deimorz said, the 'normalization' pushes the votes 'into range'. This cap is about 5000, not fewer than 2000.

If it has something to do with the new algorithm, why don't other posts rapidly fall from r/all and then keep acquiring downvotes? Why does this not happen to other posts? It also doesn't explain why the total number of votes fell, even as the upvote percentage remained at 63%. Presumably, people kept voting - there were tens of thousands of active people on /r/The_Donald as the nerfing started - did none of them vote? There is definitely some fishy business going on, and thus far, I have not seen any convincing explanation for this. If the admins address it and have a legitimate explanation, sure, I'll believe it if it is reasonable. But be careful that you don't turn into a useful idiot for censorship and make the excuses for would-be censors when they don't offer any of their own.

It doesn't matter whom you support for president. I certainly don't like either candidate. But even if free speech is insufficient to bring you to object to such blatant manipulation, think of the treatment that will be dealt out to us if we let them get away with blatant censorship, manipulation and unfairness. If we do not stand up for free speech even when we dislike it, ours may well be the next 'free speech' on the chopping block.

TL;DR: A Trump AMA reached the top spot at r/all and then promptly fell from the first page. It turns out that there are some rather strange things going on with it, like the total number of votes declining as the hours passed, which had the AMA ending up with fewer than 2000 upvotes. An analysis shows that there was apparently a timed nerfing applied to it by the Reddit admins, because the vote number declined rather predictably. At the very least, this looks extremely suspicious.

Donald Trump has forced them to use his language. They are talking about a "rigged" system and unfair trade deals. That wouldn't have been a factor had it not been for Trump. When Bernie picked up on that, he got 43% of the vote. That's why the Democrats are using phrases like "Stronger together," because Bernie has fractured the party.
