Well, I think after Barack Obama, pretty much anyone with a pulse thinks they can be president. The fact that McCain and Romney lost to Obama illustrates the problem with establishment politicians and their devotion to identity politics and political correctness. Trump blew them all out of the water, and the establishment never thought he had a chance of winning. Now they are perplexed about what to do. Oddly enough, Al Franken had more substantive political experience that Obama had when he ran for the White House.

Paul Wellstone, who Al Franken mentioned today, also voted against the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Who else voted "Not Guilty" on the Republican side? Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe--two of only three Republican women senators--both sided with Clinton. Kay Bailey Hutchison voted "Guilty." John Chafee, Slade Gordon, Jim Jeffords, Richard Shelby, Arlen Specter, Ted Stevens, Fred Thompson and John Warner also voted "Not Guilty."

The reasoning might sound counterintuitive: People say Smith doesn't actually want the role (in the long term, that is). But naming Smith to the seat would allow the governor to quickly appoint a qualified and reliable ally to the role for the next 10-plus months, setting the stage for voters to select a new U.S. Senator next November. There's one major drawback to a Smith pick for Minnesota liberals, though: Under the state succession rules, her post would be filled by the president of the state Senate, who happens to be a Republican, a move that could give the GOP control of both houses of the state Legislature and the state's No. 2 elected post.

Smith, 59, is a longtime player on the Minnesota political scene. Before joining the ticket as lieutenant governor in 2014, she was Dayton's chief of staff and a top aide to Minneapolis Mayor RT Ryback. A staunch advocate for reproductive rights, Smith also served as a vice president for public affairs at Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota in the mid-2000s. Right. He didn't really admit to anything. One of his accusers at least is quite pissed off about it. Why deny it and resign? At any rate, he hasn't resigned yet. He says it will come in a few weeks, so I'm sure the Democrats are going to put on a show if Roy Moore wins.

Everybody is hip to the October Surprise deal now. So people just don't believe it. If you have charges like that, you make them in a timely manner. Withholding charges for decades and revealing them a month before an election in which a person has been 8 times elected to public office looks like typical deep state tricks.
