Dissapointed in this. Fox News will remain out of the deal, but for how long?

But this is a disaster for Hollywood. Disney owns way too much shit these days.

They now own The Simpsons, Futurama and Family Guy...

Good for job creation, the economy and business, and Fox News will be independent from Disney so no doubt Trump will allow it and even celebrate it as a good deal, but competition is dead in Hollywood.

How long till Disney owns Warner Brothers and DC comics? 5 years? How long till we see Batman VS Iron Man?

I know Rupert wants to retire and his children are pretty well off already, but damn 20th Century Fox is dead.

At least this will allow Disney to slap the classy 20th Century Fox fanfare back on Star Wars opening. At least that is one good thing to come of it.

Don't think they'll reboot X-Men, but I bet the next film is a jamming into the MCU somehow.

Fox News will be an independent entity, yeah right... that won't last.

The Simpsons once had a joke about this happening and the show one day being owned by Disney.... now just like the President Trump prediction, it happened.

Edit: hey Mods, I think I put this in the wrong forum. Should be Today's News.

That deal is really... disturbing and game changing. Disney owns SO MUCH now. Virtually every major current franchise and a good chunk of great TV shows going back decades. And Searchlight, which has been a great source for indie movies for decades, which I'm sad to see go. The other production companies also aren't doing so hot economically.

Controlling those franchises is more than just movies... this is Disney, the entire sales departments will explode, everything up to theme parks.

It also makes Disney majority holders of Hulu, which may become their distribution platform (especially since things were being removed from Netflix anyway).

My Dad would have hated this. As a Walt Disney(the man) fan he genuinely hated the company's Touchstone Pictures development and thought it was "the moment the company turned on it's founder.... making Adult Porn(as he put it) films, he would have hated it"....

He still loved the "actual Walt Disney Pictures part" though.... Loved The Lion King in particular as Bambi spiritual successor.

Interesting timing I thought with the whole net neutrality thing. I think I read somewhere about Disney wanting to get into the online or pay tv space :?: I can’t remember now, I mean, it was a whole 24 hours ago...

Disney has been ridiculously large for a long time now. It getting larger is not necessarily an issue anymore. It has treated other corporations and other popular individuals as shit because it is Disney and nobody cared then so I do not see why anybody would care now.

People did care back then....

Roy E. Disney tried several times to save the company, bring back a relationship between the company and the family whose surname it uses and to restore it to his Uncle's vision for it. Tried twice, in the early eighties(in response to the poor state it was in then) and early 2000s(because he was upset with the company's sour treatment of Steve Jobs and Pixar at the time).

But alas they clearly failed.

One wonders if Apple hadn't of succeeded getting Steve Jobs to come back to them, what he would have done with Pixar and what his role in Disney would have become. Probably would have kept the focus on developing children's films.

But I guess he had to back and save his own original company when it was in the shit.
