jimjam wrote:What bothers me is that America was attacked by a foreign power. This apparently does not disturb you.

Like you, I'm troubled by the UK and its MI6 agents interfering in the US election and in the ongoing operations of our government. We need to bring Teresa May's government to heel.

jimjam wrote:You either disbelieve the evidence of a Russian attack or, if you buy it, you will say, "well, it was just a little attack. Look at what a bitch Hillary is, Bill and Obama also suck and we do it to others, won't stand up in court, fake news, deep state, the Mexicans are going to gettcha and Canada is our enemy ad infinitum" and lot's more irrelevant distractions many trotted around by your ringmaster of irrelevant distractions …. Donald.

You are uniquely bothered by the Russians, whose effect on our elections were nil. You aren't troubled by over 10M illegal aliens here, many of whom vote in our elections. You seem nonplussed by the UK's obvious influence in our elections as well. Clearly, Christopher Steele's efforts have had a material impact on the operations of our government.

As for Hillary Clinton, I said here from the outset of her personal email server scandal that she broke the law, and that she would never be convicted for it. I turned out to be right. I also said that this wasn't the most important story. The more important story was that all US adversaries had hacked her server and knew every foreign policy move of the United States well before it was announced. I found Vladimir Putin's efforts very impressive--especially his annexation of Crimea and his foray into Syria. He was able to do that, because he knew what the US would do. It's as if Vladimir Putin was sitting in the room when Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were speaking. If you are seriously upset about a bunch of punks putting ads on Facebook, you should have been much more concerned about Hillary Clinton's horrible information security practices. Yet again, you seem utterly nonplussed.

jimjam wrote:The essence to me is that a foreign power attacked us and we damn well better make it clear to them that there are consequences.

Like what?

jimjam wrote:You're happy because Donald is pissing off a status quo run by a pack of liars and scumbags.

Yes. I am. None of what is happening to the FBI or DOJ would be happening without Trump.

jimjam wrote:Well, we can agree on that but, looking ahead, I see a lot of poor people getting fucked and hurt in the long run.

Poor people are not getting fucked because of Trump's policies. If anything, they are doing much better. Unemployment is way down, initial jobless claims are down, etc. The middle class is better off too. Who's getting fucked for real? Blue state upper middle class people who have property and state income tax bills in excess of $10k a year. I've said again on this forum that if I were a Democrat, I'd be bringing that up. Here are a few articles for your edification:

Tax law limit on deductions looms large in some House races

How the SALT cap is playing
HOW THE SALT CAP IS PLAYING: Pretty well if you’re a Democrat, it seems. In places like New Jersey, New York and California, they’re seizing on the new $10,000 cap, turning tables on Republicans by tagging them as tax increasers while promising to dump the cap if they’re elected, the Associated Press reports.

Guess who is running on tax cuts for the well-to-do? Well... it's the Democrats! Low and behold! The best thing the Republicans have going for themselves is that their opponents are people like you who are not focusing on bottom line issues that actually affect people.

jimjam wrote:More likely by Don's self serving economic "policies" where he favors printing money like a drunken sailor simply to make himself look good.

You are suddenly concerned about quantitative easing? That was a monetary policy during Obama's presidency and you didn't seem too concerned at that time. Interest rates are going up now, not down. So printing money isn't something you should be too concerned about.

jimjam wrote:Shit, anybody can have a great economy when debt, debt and more debt is resorted to but guess what ….. it will end and when it does, that out of work truck driver in Oklahoma City may very well start chowing down oxycontins by the hand full.

You know it's 2018, right? Massive debt increases happened under Obama and so did the biggest opioid epidemic in modern memory. Trump is working to stop the opioid epidemic. The out of work truck driver in Oklahoma City just needs to move to West Texas where truck drivers are in short supply moving West Texas intermediate to market.

What do you think is happening to them? As far as I can judge they're becoming the legal branch of a Praetorian Guard that can eliminate any presidency.

They were gatekeepers for the neoliberal/neoconservative cabal, and they are getting laid out. It seems that even the NYTimes has turned on Rod Rosenstein. It may be a ruse, but it may be that others under fire (like Andy McCabe) are going to turn on Rosenstein and bring him down. There are enough people who have lost everything who will probably be pissed off enough at Rosenstein to undermine him as payback for his treachery.

Yes 8th June 1967. Also 9/11 was an indirect attack by Saudi and Pakistan against America. These along with Chinese, North Korean and Turkish aggression are the enemies we should be bothering about not Russia, which is our friend.

Who's that guy behind him?

He does look like he's been taking it in the ass. The "delivery guy" behind him looks like he enjoyed a little back door action at Cohen's expense.

Anyway, it looks like things are starting to come to a head now. Rosenstein is going to have a tête-à-tête with President Trump on Thursday after the New York Times of all papers ran a story--not long after their anonymous story about the "resister" from inside sabotaging the president from within the White House--indicating that Rod Rosenstein was planning a 25th Amendment coup d'état. Apparently, they tried to play it off as a joke, but apparently Lisa Page is indicating that she was there and Rosenstein was serious. Of course, we all heard plenty of 25th Amendment stories from the press, so apparently it originated with Rosenstein, who also appointed the special counsel after Trump fired Comey, as recommended by... Rosenstein himself.

The single most significant defect in U.S. political discourse is the monomaniacal focus on Trump himself, as though he is the cause – rather than the by-product and symptom – of decades-old systemic American pathologies.

Personalizing and isolating Trump as the principal, even singular, source of political evil is obfuscating and thus deceitful. By effect, if not design, it distracts the population’s attention away from the actual architects of their plight.

This now-dominant framework misleads people into the nationalistic myth – at once both frightening and comforting – that prior to 2016’s “Fahrenheit 11/9,” the U.S., though quite imperfect and saddled with “flaws,” was nonetheless a fundamentally kind, benevolent, equitable and healthy democracy, one which, by aspiration if not always in action, welcomed immigrants, embraced diversity, strove for greater economic equality, sought to defend human rights against assaults by the world’s tyrants, was governed by the sturdy rule of law rather than the arbitrary whims of rulers, elected fundamentally decent even if ideologically misguided men to the White House, and gradually expanded rather than sadistically abolished opportunity for the world’s neediest.

But suddenly, teaches this fairy tale as ominous music plays in the background, a villain unlike any we had previously known invaded our idyllic land, vandalized our sacred public spaces, degraded our admired halls of power, threatened our collective values. It was only upon Trump’s assumption of power that the nation’s noble aspirations were repudiated in favor of a far darker and more sinister vision, one wholly alien to “Who We Are”: a profoundly “un-American” tapestry of plutocracy, kleptocracy, autocracy, xenophobia, racism, elite lawlessness, indifference and even aggressive cruelty toward the most vulnerable and marginalized.

This myth is not just false but self-evidently so. Yet it persists, and thrives, because it serves so many powerful interests at once. Most importantly, it exonerates, empowers, and elevates the pre-Trump ruling class, now recast as heroic leaders of the #Resistance and nostalgic symbols of America’s pre-11/9 Goodness.

[...]

Beyond nationalistic myth-building, there are substantial commercial, political and reputational benefits to this Trump-centered mythology. An obsessive fixation on Trump has single-handedly saved an entire partisan cable news network from extinction, converting its once ratings-starved, close-to-being-fired prime-time hosts into major celebrities with contracts so obscenely lucrative as to produce envy among most professional athletes or Hollywood stars.

Resistance grifters exploit fears of Trump to build massive social media followings that are easily converted into profit from well-meaning, manipulated dupes. One rickety, unhinged, rant-filled, speculation-driven Trump book after the next dominates the best-seller lists, enriching charlatans and publishing companies alike: the more conspiratorial, the better. Anti-Trump mania is big business, and – as the record-shattering first-week sales of Bob Woodward’s new Trump book demonstrates – there is no end in sight to this profiteering.

All of this is historical revisionism in its crudest and most malevolent form. It’s intended to heap most if not all blame for systemic, enduring, entrenched suffering across the country onto a single personality who wielded no political power until 18 months ago. In doing so, it averts everyone’s eyes away from the real culprits: the governors, both titled and untitled, of the establishment ruling class, who for decades have exercised largely unchecked power – immune even from election outcomes – and, in many senses, still do.

The message is as clear as the beneficial outcomes: Just look only at Trump. Keep your eyes fixated on him. Direct all your suffering, deprivations, fears, resentments, anger and energy to him and him alone. By doing so, you’ll forget about us – except that we’ll join you in your Trump-centered crusade, even lead you in it, and you will learn again to love us: the real authors of your misery.

It may be hard to believe, but it appears that Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein just made friends with President Trump.
Was it to keep from getting fired?

I never expected a tie in from Donald to Russia's rather obvious attack on the American electoral system. Donald has been a crook all his life. He is not stupid by a long shot. He is simply insane. Donald Trump’s long practice has been to never leave a paper trail. No memos, he told his staff back in Trump Tower, a habit he may well have inherited from his father, who was legendary for keeping details in his head. He has no shortage of suck ups who are willing and eager to stick their necks out for him for a few bucks and a pat on the back from the Don.

America is in the midst of a Perfect Storm. An insane power hungry wannabe fascist dictator is given effective control over all 3 branches of the federal government largely short circuiting America's system of checks and balances. He is now even getting a wack at putting the so called supreme court on his payroll.

IMO the primary value of the Mueller investigation was to keep the slightest tenuous check on this lunatic to slow down his process of taking over the world. Mueller also served to expose a number of the rotten crew that Donald hangs with. Birds of a feather …… etc. Drain the swamp? Not exactly. Replace the existing swamp with Donald's swamp. Me? I'll stay with the devil I know rather than the one I do not yet know. There seem to be a few folks here on POFO who claim to know what Mueller has in his briefcase. Guess what ?? We do not know. It could very well be empty but, knowing Donald's over active criminal mind, I doubt it.

America's last and best hope may well lie in the upcoming elections. If that fails …. Oh Well. I had the good years. Good luck...………….

If the Dems grab a branch of government I cannot wait to hear Donald's next attempted con, "My good friends on the other side of the aisle. etc." I suspect, however, that he will reap what he has sowed.

Three months before the 2016 election, a small group gathered at Trump Tower to meet with Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son. One was an Israeli specialist in social media manipulation. Another was an emissary for two wealthy Arab princes. The third was a Republican donor with a controversial past in the Middle East as a private security contractor.

Erik Prince, the private security contractor and the former head of Blackwater, arranged the meeting, which took place on Aug. 3, 2016. The emissary, George Nader, told Donald Trump Jr. that the princes who led Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were eager to help his father win election as president. The social media specialist, Joel Zamel, extolled his company’s ability to give an edge to a political campaign; by that time, the firm had already drawn up a multimillion-dollar proposal for a social media manipulation effort to help elect Mr. Trump.

Mr. Nader and Mr. Zamel have given differing accounts over whether Mr. Zamel ultimately carried out the social media effort to help the Trump campaign and why Mr. Nader paid him $2 million after the election, according to people who have discussed the matter with the two men.

The reason for the payment has been of keen interest to Mr. Mueller, according to people familiar with the matter.

Lawyer with ties to Hillary Clinton, DNC reportedly gave FBI documents on Russia meddling
Mark Meadows calls James Baker's testimony revealing 'abnormal' action 'explosive'

By Jeff Mordock - The Washington Times - Thursday, October 4, 2018
A lawyer with ties to the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s campaign passed on documents about Russian election meddling to the FBI’s general counsel during the 2016 presidential campaign, according to a report Thursday.

James Baker, who was formerly the top lawyer at the FBI, told congressional investigators about the exchange in a closed-door deposition on Wednesday, the Daily Caller reported.

Mr. Baker said he received the documents as well as computer storage devices on Russian hacking from Michael Sussmann, an attorney with Perkins Coie.

Testifying before a joint session of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees, Mr. Baker said Mr. Sussmann approached him. The contact was initiated before the FBI and Justice Department applied for a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant for key Trump campaign figure Carter Page, according to the Daily Caller’s report.

Mr. Baker was instrumental in obtaining the warrants for Mr. Page.

Reportedly, Mr. Baker told lawmakers it was unusual that he was contacted by Mr. Sussmann and it only happened once.

After the Daily Caller report surfaced, one House Judiciary Committee member, Rep. Mark Meadows, North Carolina Republican, said Mr. Baker’s testimony was “explosive.”

“Some of the things that were shared were explosive in nature,” Mr. Meadows said in a Fox News interview. “The witness confirmed that things were done in an abnormal fashion. That’s extremely troubling.”

Perkins Coie was key in funding the salacious anti-Trump dossier compiled by opposition research firm Fusion GPS. In April 2016, Perkins Coie connected Fusion GPS with the DNC and Clinton campaign to compile the dossier, which was shared with the FBI later that year.

A Perkins Coie spokesperson released a statement saying Mr. Sussmann worked in the Department of Justice as a cybercrime prosecutor for both Democratic and Republican administrations and is regularly retained by clients to handle cybersecurity matters.

“When Sussmann met with Mr. Baker on behalf of a client, it was not connected to the firm’s representation of the Hillary Clinton Campaign, the DNC or any Political Law Group client,” the statement said.

My good friend, nothing is "real" in today's news. It is all hate and garbage. Strictly choose your poison.

In 74 years I have never seen such an atmosphere of division and hatred in the land. Teddy Roosevelt espoused a "square deal" for all sides. Today ….. destroy anyone who has any ideas that may differ ever so slightly from your own.

more importantly ….. what's the hurricane news down there?

The Thin One

There is lot's of evidence that Russia interfered in America's election. Lots, and I really do not have time to enter into a pissing contest with you. I take it that you not only deny Russia's involvement but you deny that there is an abundance of hate and garbage in today's news?

Poor thing ……
