Mass Shooting in Los Angeles, CA.

http://www.latimes.com/local/la-lb-864- ... story.html

Police were responding to reports of a mass shooting that left at least six people injured, including a deputy sheriff, Wednesday night at a Thousand Oaks bar packed with college students and others.

Authorities said the scene at the Borderline Bar & Grill was still “fluid” and urged the public to stay away. Officials could not immediately confirm if there were fatalities.

One law enforcement official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Times that at least 30 shots had been fired and that there are casualties.

Occurred in the state with the strictest gun laws:

The state known for the strictest gun laws is California.

In California, all firearms sales, transfers, including private transactions and sales at gun shows, must go through a California licensed firearms dealer.

California also has no provision in its state constitution that explicitly guarantees an individual the right to keep and bear arms.

Tattooed trenchcoat-wearing ex-Marine, 29, is identified as gunman who massacred twelve people during student night at country bar: Suspect killed himself after hurling smoke grenades onto dance floor and slaying cop in California

Long is a former Marine who lived in nearby Newbury Park. In April this year, deputies were called to his home amid reports of a disturbance.

He was acting 'irrationally' and was 'irate' so police called in their mental health specialist. They cleared Long, deciding against having him committed, and left him at the home.

It's basically mental illness...again. At some point, the hippy Baby Boomers have to realize that believing everything they saw in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is not a good reason to end institutionalization of the mentally ill.

Maybe somebody will make One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest II, and make it about a homeless encampment under a freeway to illustrate society's problem with homelessness. People used to be institutionalized for chronic alcoholism and drug use too. We could literally eradicate homelessness with a return to institutionalization.

At some point, maybe liberals will realize it is the right thing to do.

WOW.

I never thought of this before.

*Locks himself in study for a long day of reading and meditation on this interesting thought.*

.......I would add though, off the top of my head, that Foucault's critique of institutional mental health might be as much of a basis for our society's approach than anything; especially in academia....and we know how post-modernism has trickled down to the masses in this country from the university system.

What it is with the Marines in particular producing unhinged people? Wasn't Oswald a Marine? Also, the guy that did the first school mass shooting at UT Austin back in the 60s?

Than again, I believe the Marines has the lowest standards for accepting recruits.

Apparently they'll let you in for just gushing about how awesome you think guns are.

This thread is silly. The premise is that a liberal solution to a universally agreed upon problem: gun violence is ineffective. I agree that this is true, but do conservatives offer a solution, no? Instead they to varying degrees point the finger at minorities. FBI crime statistics and the like are the usual go to. Fair enough I guess, but when I point to similar statistics about the military and law enforcement I'm a dick because these people are sacred to the CHUD.

That should be the next thing on the Democrats agenda, go after Marines and ex military, that should put them over the top next election cycle.

BlackJack doesn't think I'm libertarian cause I believe non-whites should also be red pill on the fed and free markets. Apparently, I'm a liberal cause believe the cops who killed Garner should be in jail; I do notice alot so called libertarians only care about "freedom" when it comes to the economy and not social life.

You obviously have no idea why the cops went after Garner do you? He was killed because the liberals wanted to collect their cigarette taxes. :knife:
