Police were responding to reports of a mass shooting that left at least six people injured, including a deputy sheriff, Wednesday night at a Thousand Oaks bar packed with college students and others.

Authorities said the scene at the Borderline Bar & Grill was still “fluid” and urged the public to stay away. Officials could not immediately confirm if there were fatalities.

One law enforcement official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Times that at least 30 shots had been fired and that there are casualties.

Long is a former Marine who lived in nearby Newbury Park. In April this year, deputies were called to his home amid reports of a disturbance.

He was acting 'irrationally' and was 'irate' so police called in their mental health specialist. They cleared Long, deciding against having him committed, and left him at the home.

It's basically mental illness...again. At some point, the hippy Baby Boomers have to realize that believing everything they saw in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is not a good reason to end institutionalization of the mentally ill.

Maybe somebody will make One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest II, and make it about a homeless encampment under a freeway to illustrate society's problem with homelessness. People used to be institutionalized for chronic alcoholism and drug use too. We could literally eradicate homelessness with a return to institutionalization.

At some point, maybe liberals will realize it is the right thing to do.

This thread is silly. The premise is that a liberal solution to a universally agreed upon problem: gun violence is ineffective. I agree that this is true, but do conservatives offer a solution, no? Instead they to varying degrees point the finger at minorities. FBI crime statistics and the like are the usual go to. Fair enough I guess, but when I point to similar statistics about the military and law enforcement I'm a dick because these people are sacred to the CHUD.
