Radio host Glenn Beck, the onetime Fox News star, declared this week that he “would rather die” than kill the economy.

“I would rather have my children stay home and all of us who are over 50 go in and keep this economy going and working, even if we all get sick,” he said during his Tuesday radio panel. “I would rather die than kill the country, because it's not the economy that's dying, it's the country.”

Wow! Glenn is one fucking patriotic dude. Anybody want to take bets as to when Glenn will be out and about sucking on virus to save the economy? These right wing crackpots talk a good game but, when the shit hits the fan, they are nowhere to be found. They've long since gathered up their gold and hitched a ride on the next submarine to Argentina.

For you my friend …… anything. Tomorrow I plan to start a movement down here called "Die For The Dow!" Members will be limited to economic "losers" over 65 years of age and must sign a notarized proxy pledging their vote to Obese Donald.

Even though your Lieutenant Governor has the charisma of a pile of dog shit that has been sitting on a cement sidewalk in 100 degree sun, I apologize and pledge to die for the dow …….. very soon after he does  .

There may be some billionaires who imagine that denying the crisis will work to their financial advantage. Just before Trump made his terrifying call for reopening the nation by Easter, he had a conference call with a group of money managers, who may have told him that ending social distancing would be good for the market.

The bottom line is that as with so many things Trump, the awfulness of the man in the White House isn’t the whole story behind terrible policy. Yes, he’s ignorant, incompetent, vindictive and utterly lacking in empathy. But his failures on pandemic policy owe as much to the nature of the movement he serves as they do to his personal inadequacies.

The bankers and billionaires now urging Americans get back to work possess a huge share of the stock market. The richest 1% of the population owns roughly half of the value of all shares of stock. (The richest 10% own more than 80%.)

So when they recommend Americans die for the Dow for the sake of the “economy”, they’re really urging that other people risk their lives for the sake of the bankers’ and billionaires’ own stock portfolios.

I love Glen Beck. He is a perfect example of what you can do with a high school diploma, on religion class in college and a lifelong substance abuse problem. Oh. I forgot. Also ADHD and some undefined "neurological problem" he saw a chiropractor for.

Rancid's personal Lieutenant Governor is, of course, an idiot. I really don't know why Rancid keeps him. He should just call him and tell him he is fired. The man is certainly stupid enough to believe it and just leave.

We are talking about a virus and Finfinder decides to talk about abortion. To bad his parents didn't. ;) What I meant to say was too bad they did not have "the talk" with him when he was.......I meant to say that no democrat running for office supports abortion after birth. Love to see the proof that someone does.

The word on the street is these high flying share holders and large Corp CEO’s have been borrowing to buy back shares in order to artificially raise stock prices of the stocks they hold in their company. The increase in wealth is obvious for share holders, including the CEO’s who get share options, but also CEOs get bonuses if stock prices rise past set thresholds.

So basically the last ten years has seen a lot of this sort of playing the system. The problem is now these large corporations are highly leveraged and are now exposed to any squeeze in cash flow as that cash is needed to finance these debts. Therefore it is necessary to send people to their deaths in order to keep the cash flowing.

That is the word on the street. Just what I hear.

Get ready for the numbers on the NYSE to see a big fall in prices tomorrow morning, following today's callous announcement by the Trump administration to sacrifice more points on the stock indices in order to try to save a measly few hundred thousand odd lives.

A 2018 Pew Research Center study found that more than half of American adults (55%) say they pray daily, compared with 25% in Canada, 18% in Australia and 6% in Great Britain. (22% is the average in European countries). Religious people by definition routinely believe the unbelievable and conversely reject the believable due to their hopelessly gullible, dupable nature.

The Republican Party knows that America's religionistas will believe anything they tell them as long as they pretend religiosity. (N.B. Donald's recent plea that Americans attend church on Easter Sunday and get up to go to work for their corporate masters the next day.)

And our con man of a president knows this full well. Remember that he loves "the uneducated." There's a good reason for that. And it applies in earnest during the time of this pandemic.
The extreme religion of profit, at all costs, and its incompatibility with actual governance, for, and of the people can no longer be masked with flag waving, chest thumping and chants of USA, USA.

"The Republican Party knows that America's religionistas will believe anything they tell them as long as they pretend religiosity "

It seems that you believe that Donald and the Republican party are not playing fundamentalists and do truly believe in something other than their true God: money. My my, whatever gets you through the night my friend.

annatar1914 wrote:The masks of your political allies are dropping. It must be increasingly difficult for you to bear them

Allies? I did not realize we were choosing sides. Who pray tell are your "allies" or have you reached the goal of perfect wisdom and objectivity that we all wish we could achieve?

"Masks" ……. thinly disguised arrogance.

Oh FUCK ME ( I assume that was legal) here is the objectionable quote in it's full context for you to ponder:

A 2018 Pew Research Center study found that more than half of American adults (55%) say they pray daily, compared with 25% in Canada, 18% in Australia and 6% in Great Britain. (22% is the average in European countries)

It turns out that when it comes to their religious prayer habits, Americans are much more like people in poorer, developing 3rd world nations – including South Africa (52%), Bangladesh (57%) and Bolivia (56%) – than people in richer countries.

And even though America is a rich country, it has a much higher percentage of poor people than other rich people....AND America's rich people are much richer than the rich people in other rich countries.

AND the US is the only country out of 102 in the Pew study that has higher-than-average levels of both prayer and wealth. In every other country surveyed with a gross domestic product of more than $30,000 per person, fewer than 40% of adults say they pray every day.

The point is that religious people by definition routinely believe the unbelievable and conversely reject the believable due to their hopelessly gullible, dupable nature.

The Republican Party knows that America's religionistas will believe anything they tell them as long as they pretend religiosity.

And even if the Republican Party is flagrantly and repeatedly wrong, the religionistas don't care, because the Republicans pretend religiosity.

40% of America is thrilled to be a political-religious cult member or manipulator.

If you're coming down on the side of those who pray, who believe in God, who follow the dictates of their religion more or less in their lives, you're ''proving'' to them that they made a wise choice in choosing President Trump (whether or not they're wrong) because there's no home for them elsewhere in a Democratic party that has the same contemptuous attitude towards them as you've so eloquently expressed.

"Masks" ……. thinly disguised arrogance.

Yes, indeed.

And? But their Liberal Elites are much more like Swedes in religious habits and beliefs, is the other side of that.

And even though America is a rich country, it has a much higher percentage of poor people than other rich people....AND America's rich people are much richer than the rich people in other rich countries.

Capitalism. You may want to modify it, but you support it, and so do most other people in America, rich or poor.

See, it's that attitude that will never gain their vote.

The Republican Party knows that America's religionistas will believe anything they tell them as long as they pretend religiosity.

And why should they vote for people who despise them so much that they don't even pretend to disguise their loathing for them, calling them ''religionistas''?

And even if the Republican Party is flagrantly and repeatedly wrong, the religionistas don't care, because the Republicans pretend religiosity.

On issues they care about more, it is the Democratic Party that is ''flagrantly and repeatedly wrong''.

40% of America is thrilled to be a political-religious cult member or manipulator.

They aren't stupid, they look at the vile degenerates and grifters in charge of the Democratic party and conclude they're better off with the opponent of such human toxic waste.

As for myself, i'm a Socialist and a Social Conservative, don't kill the messenger, I'm about as objective looking at this as a person can get.

I guess you just made me have an epiphany. I will vote for Trump. I suppose I have to. As much as I can't abide his boorishness and ineptitude, I hold my religious freedom as far more important than anything else. I don't believe for a moment that Trump gives one shit about religion but he is appointing conservative judges who do.

So there you have it. Two of us have told you how, for the very best of reasons, your attitudes and those of so many democrats are an assault to our deepest beliefs. Your characterizing me as "hopelessly gullible" clearly shows that you have no respect for me as a person. Your overtly hostile attitude to all religion clearly shows that you would suppress these beliefs if you could. I suppose that you must believe that all of we religious who are providing just about all of the private medical and social services in this country, are nothing more than useful dupes. You said that exactly. I can assure you. I will pit my education against yours any day. I am nobodies fool. And I am not "hopelessly gullible" as you obviously believe I, Annitar1914, and most of the people in the world....are.

I hope this is a lesson to you as you enjoy another four years of Donald. And even if he goes down in flames, the judges he has appointed so far will ensure his religion friendly agenda will survive long after you and I are dust. Put in office for the exact same reason that blacks vote democrat; that the other side is intolerant of us and wishes us ill.

Well said. And the even more laughable-but-sick irony in your last statement is that the Democrats take the black vote for granted too; and they are the most religious demographic in their voting bloc. What do you want to bet that in 2020, President Trump gets more of the black vote than any GOP Presidential candidate ever?

WTF!! I did not characterize you as anything. I have not the slightest idea what you are like other than your thoughts on pofo which are hardly a comprehensive source on anyone …… as demonstrated by the rather comprehensive incorrect conclusions you seem to have reached on myself. I am a very lazy poster who frequently cuts and posts from the 4 corners of the internet ….. frequently as a devil's advocate. It sure as hell worked this time ….
Drlee wrote:Your overtly hostile attitude to all religion

I am married to the daughter of a prominent Baptist preacher who was married to a Baptist preacher in her first marriage where she had a son who is a Baptist preacher. To make the plot thicker, my grandfather was a Catholic priest (He was from Hungary where priests could marry prior to ordination.) . I have never in my life met a person more able than I to live at peace with persons of all religious beliefs. Never ….I pride myself on my ability to accept all beliefs except the most extreme (as in Nazi).

Good Lord Man …… believe whatever you want..... it has no effect on my beliefs and I could care less.

You and 1914 haven't the slightest idea what I believe. I am a highly spiritual person but, unlike you and 1914, I do not bring my religious/spiritual beliefs to pofo ……. or anywhere for that matter. My beliefs in this area are known to nobody save myself. They are highly personal and I do not discuss them.

For the record I respect your intelligence and innate wisdom. I apologize for offending you. I hope you are simply having a bad day and …………. try not to take general statements personally …… especially here on pofo where jerks like me abound.

But ……………….. You didn't answer my question. Could Donald be playing the religious card strictly to gain power and control of the U.S. treasury? Is it conceivable that many will make a deal with the devil simply to get a few scraps from the con man's table?

The reason still stands that religious people in this country are political because their beliefs have a social and therefore political dimension, and feel themselves actively excluded by the Democratic Party and other political forces from expressing those beliefs socially or politically, or setting an agenda politically that differs from that of the Liberal worldview.

I would be willing to bet that your religious views are expressed as an absolute negative opposite to that of such religious people as I've just mentioned, towards not allowing them to win politically on certain issues or even to express a contrary opinion on them that threatens the Liberal political order. Say, on sexual morality, drugs, crime, the traditional family/marriage and on abortion, along with other issues.
