They did that two weeks ago already. This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen in my life.

jimjam wrote:“We can expect that by June 1, we will be well on our way to recovery,” Mr. Trump said on Sunday evening, though he offered no scientific data to back up that claim. “We think by June 1. A lot of great things will be happening.”

"A lot of great things will be happening." WOW! Is this guy full of shit …. or what...…

A few days ago he informed us that come Easter the churches would be packed with people raring to get out to work the next day and Die For The Dow. We have a fiscal crisis, a physical crisis and a seriously incompetent head of state …… poor America.

Jimjam, people are not mentally mature. Life is not a guaranteed thing for any of us. That is why the Earth needs to be respected as a living thing. it has bacteria, viruses, and plagues that can destroy a civilization that took hundreds of years to build in a few months. That has happened in the human past histories and past civvies. But all these arrogant people who laugh at natural disasters in other places (like Puerto Rico) are not panicking as they face the same problems. Lack of enough health care infrastructure and equipment. Safe places to ride out the contagion, short supply of this or that. KARMA for these arrogant people.

The best thing is to be grateful for the life you have already lived. Think of 30 or 40 things to be grateful for every single day you live. If you recite them? You have a much better attitude about life.

I am worried about my husband who remains in the USA and was expected to come back to me in Mexico in June. He might not be able to make it back. I ask every day for his safe return.

I got a lot to be grateful for Jimjam. So much to be grateful for. I wish all of us to realize how lucky we are to be alive and to have been able to have the opportunities and the abilities to do what we wanted to with our lives.

I love the Mexican culture for its attitudes about death. It is part of life. It is. And none of us are made to be immortal.

Live your life with mindfulness. No such thing as living a meaningful life without it.

it doesn't matter your nationality, your color, race, creed, religion, politics, etc you need to be grateful for every small thing that is a good thing in your life. That is of absolute essentiality. Pandemics are bad. But it teaches us about our values. Do we want to live in fear forever? Without freedom? Without an ability to be free in a real sense? we are all going to die someday. That is a truth that no one can deny? So why not be fearless with our life choices and be true to who we are as human beings? Why not love others with great dedication and leave a better society for future generations? Why be selfish or greedy and disrespectful and thoughtless? That is not our purpose as social beings dependent on each other? this pandemic is showing us how much we all depend on all of us cooperating to make it through this? Why don't be adopt a political and economic system that relies on mass cooperation to get big problems solved?

Competing and hating and distrusting each other? Is that good?

Virus hysteria for morons? How about realizing you are not an immortal and making the best of humanity work in this world for all of us instead of relying on greed and fear and thinking you are gonna live forever? Be grateful for life. And be into love and cooperation. Not the rest of those awful models out there being pushed by a small group of selfish people?

This pandemic is letting us know who knows how to live and those who don't.

I have just finished a biography of the Indian Leader Crazy Horse. While Indian cultures can engage in fierce war like behavior, I have always been fascinated with their respect for the earth ….. Mother Nature.

Last week I was contemplating doing something very stupid. I was thinking with my heart, not my head. I planned to travel to Miami beach to visit with two good old friends of over half century. I thought to myself, " Old friends are priceless. If I get sick and die …… so be it. I have had a remarkable life. Ups and downs for sure but I am grateful beyond words for the fascinating experiences and joys which I have experienced and continue to experience."

Perhaps it was the Hand of God that intervened. All hotels in Miami Beach were shut down the day prior to my departure. I have had 3 near death experiences in my life that I know of ……. "somebody" or something seems to be looking out for me. Let me bore you some day with the story of how a cow almost killed me in Colombia, S.A.

Tainari88 wrote: attitudes about death

A lesson that Crazy Horse's father taught him repeatedly: "Life is a circle. The end of one journey is the beginning of the next."

Tainari88 wrote:This pandemic is letting us know who knows how to live and those who don't.

The human race is being taught a serious lesson. Whether is resonates or not …….. time will tell.

Getting back to Crazy Horse ….. he was, IMO, a truly great leader. Humble, wise and brave. He dedicated his life to protecting his people and culture from the encroaching "whites". Early in his life he had a prophetic dream/vision of his future. A mighty warrior rose from a lake and was invincible in battle only to be pulled down and destroyed by his own people. His end came when warriors working with the whites who were wearing white soldiers' blue coats held him while another stabbed him in the back with a bayonet. His last words were, "Tell the people they should not depend on me any longer." He was undefeated in face to face combat ( he and Gall were primary battlefield leaders in Custer's demise.) and died from a stab in the back while being held down.

As an aside …… when his 4 year old daughter died from sickness, he stayed by her body for 3 days and nights and cried.

Tell me Tainari, what do you think of dreams? Most seem to be random shit rattling around in my brain but, every so often, one stands out. My father has been dead for 59 years and, last night, he came to visit me in a dream: I saw him walking about 40 yards ahead of me on a road. I walked very fast so as to catch up to him. When I caught up with him we walked side by side, turned and smiled at each other.

Check out Crazy Horse …… you may find him interesting.

The primitive animism isn't all that interesting, where Native spirituality really shines is in its emphasis on the individual's journey. They couldn't afford the spirtual impotence that comes from formula, doctrine, and dogma , they had to keep it real in order to survive.

My business premises have been shut since the 16th of March. I went there the other day to pick some things up and to drop some things off and I parked my car right outside on the main street. That is a main city-street in which you can park for 30 minutes to load/unload legally. Despite being parked legally I was given a parking ticket because the "officer" did not witness the loading/unloading, even though he did witness the car full to the brim with items even at the passengers seat. The reason he did not witness me loading/unloading was because I was alone and at the time in the premises putting on the alarms and locking up the doors and storage so that I can then drive away. I did not see the guy putting the ticket and he is lucky to have missed me but I still challenged it with the local authority and await for their reply.

A couple of days earlier another "officer" was not as lucky as the previous one when I was again on the same spot, loading and unloading though my rear wheel was barely touching on the zig zag line and the "officer" again tried to give me a ticket for it, he was in the process of writing it up when I saw him and simply lost the plot pointing out to him that I am legally parked and legally loading/unloading from a designated area at which point he pointed out my rear wheel touching the horizontal white line that delimits the zig zag for about 1 centimetre. The guy was over 60, on his bike going around a ghost town trying to find reasons to make some money. That specimen of a human was wearing a body cam and I truly lost the plot by calling him "shameless and telling him to go back to his house" so you might even see me one of these days on youtube or the sun. The guy did not give me the ticket because I did not let him. Eventually I drove off before he finished writing it up.

I've quit toilet paper for more than decade. Been washing my bum instead. Using water is also very good for haemorrhoid prevention and even though I have not suffered from them yet, they run in my family big time. So toilet paper not a very big issue here.

How about this gem from right-wing news media.

Pro-Trump OAN pushes wild conspiracy theory that novel coronavirus was created in a North Carolina lab

OAN’s chief White House correspondent endorsed a conspiracy theorist who has said Anthony Fauci funded creation of the coronavirus to destroy the Trump economy

On March 14 and 15, pro-Trump cable news network OAN aired a coronavirus special called Exposing China's Coronavirus: The Fears, The Lies and The Unknown. During that program, the network’s chief White House correspondent, Chanel Rion, suggested that the novel coronavirus responsible for the current pandemic may have originated in a North Carolina laboratory.

As support, Rion cited Greg Rubini, whom she described in the special as “a citizen investigator and monitored source amongst a certain set in the D.C. intelligence community.”

There is no evidence that Rubini is a “monitored source” for anyone but Rion. He has pushed wild “deep state” conspiracy theories on Twitter, where he has over 100,000 followers.

Rubini has said that the novel coronavirus “was GENETICALLY ENGINEERED as a Bio-Weapon at the Univ. of North Carolina BSL-3 Lab.” He has also said that it was spread from North Carolina to China, Italy, and elsewhere in the United States by the “Deep State” in a plot “to destroy the Trump economy.” In addition, Rubini suggested that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the well-respected head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, personally funded the production of the virus, even calling him “Little Tony Fauci.”

ingliz wrote:The Maltese government has decided to put all us over 65's, well or not, into quarantine tomorrow with a maximum 10,000 Euro fine for breaking it. I am housebound so my wife has spent most of the day buying essential supplies and getting funds out of the bank - A government enforced 500 Euro minimum withdrawal. We will have to have all our groceries and medicines delivered by the army and pay cash at the door.

The government has warned us old people with all that money in the house to expect a rise in criminality and lock our doors.

Well, my experiences with Yucatecan local cops? They have new cars, snazzy uniforms are incredibly polite and when they ask you to do something they are very very nice. I like them. The Mexican government stopped by today and said if I was over age 50 and part of some chronic illness, which I am, that they will be watching if I need anything. Everything is voluntary so far but the Mexicans are incredibly interesting. They are in their homes but they play radios, dance in family groups, cook, laugh, and I get tons of phone calls from everyone wanting to chat. I do let one boy that is my son's best friend come over to play every other day. He leaves at eight thirty in the evening. The social isolation is the hardest thing for Mexico by far. This is a highly social society and they socially circulate. I am afraid it will make the pandemic worse. At the same time the Mexican government is saying they will give out groceries, stay at home respirator machines, masks, gel, etc. The cleaning is extreme and efficient. Some factories in Mexico are dedicated to making those high resistance masks. Mexico has a very vigorous construction industry and the construction masks are very commonly available. So are surgical gloves. Government clinics are saying stay home, unless you can't breathe....stay home. Have family members help you and designated health care workers. The Cuban doctors are also going to coming in for relief. The Italians are getting relief from Cuban doctors and interns, as well as Spain. Mexico too is getting them when the virus hits its peak.

I don't know if I will make it though. I always did badly with bronchitis and viral infections to the lungs in Denver in the past. I would get them bad and it would take me forever to get over them. So if I get it? I don't have much hope for a recovery. I just hope I don't get it. I will live the best I know how. Again, I am grateful. I just want my son to make it into the future. That is all I care about. And I hope people realize that socialism in medicine makes sense. And that socialism is done right liberates people from thinking that they either produce money or die. Either produce money or never get educated. Produce money or never get housed in the winter or in burning heat in summer. Socialism will clean that water and you don't have to pay an arm or a leg to drink tap water or have to be forced to buy water or filter air.....one has a right to a clean earth. Fight for it.

It is not about repression and oppression. It is about freedom to live in a society without the pressure of basic survival taking your freedom to become yourself and be yourself. Balance.

That is my kind of socialism.

Buenas noches. ;)

Good thought. I've priced out getting an outlet installed next to the toilet. $125. Not too big of a deal. Then one of those Japanese bidet toilet seats.

I went to Safeway last night, and the entire paper products shelves were emptied except for a few boxes of Kleenex. I cannot get over how stupid people are. So I'm going to take up your suggestion. Any recommendations on the bidet bit?

@colliric and @foxdemon you guys are in Victoria right? Can you explain what kind of ‘spot checks’ the government is sanctioning over there? I only ask because I just read a News Corp article which is a bit vague as to why the ‘spot checks’ are occurring.

Are they only being performed on people who should be in isolation and quarantine, or are they just randomly knocking on peoples houses now? I pray it’s the former :|

I am not in Victoria. This occurs in most states, as far as I know. The cops will check on people supposed to be in quarantine. They will also turn up at obvious breaches of social distancing rules, such as parties.

The young may think this harsh, but wait until we recruit Freddy Kruger to the force. He’ll soon put a stop to all those parties and fornication. Don’t you worry about that.
#15082699
Oops sorry, thought you were in Victoria.

The cops will check on people supposed to be in quarantine. They will also turn up at obvious breaches of social distancing rules, such as parties.

Yes, we have all been cognizant of the fact that they are doing spot checks on people who are supposed to be in isolation or quarantine, heck they’re even rolling out anklets for recidivist offenders.

But three guys playing video games in a lounge room wouldn’t really be classified as an obvious breach, how loud can those geeks get? So unless they were on a list for quarantine or isolation, why would the popo be knocking on their door? It’s that little clarification that the article didn’t get into, hence my question.

If it’s now come to authorities knocking on our doors for random checks, that ah...that won’t be cool. Ya dig?
#15082709
That’s great.

Are police doing general and random ‘spot checks’ on people in their homes who are not on a list for quarantine or isolation?

Simple question, I know. Far reaching consequences if the answer is Yes.
